I am in desperate need of your expertise here. In 2005 I purchased an OCZ-520ADJ. I am wondering if this puppy will be able to run my "Phenom X4 9650" on a "MSI K9A2 Platinum" coupled with an HD4850 or 70. Also there will be 2 optical drives, and 4 SATA HDD's in my system. This is a True 520 and its peaks load is at 620W.

Specs are as follows:

DC Output _________+3.3V___+5V___+12V___-12V___-5V___+5VSB
Max Output Current------28A-------40A------33A-------0.5------0.5A------2.0A
MaxComb Peak Watt----92.4A---150W-----396W------6W------2.5W-----10W

Also if indeed it turns out that this unit will work I am then to understand that I will need to buy a "2 way-4 pin to 6-pin PCI Express power connector adaptor? If so where I can I find one cheap?

Any advice would be welcomed

We say "continuous" and not "true" and it's only 520W continuous at 25°C. Peak is also at 25°C and is for a period of time under a second. It's a Topower build of mediocre performance and build quality.

The PSU is so antiquated it doesn't even have PCIe connectors. For goodness sakes you can buy an adequate PSU with the correct connectors for under $100 so why bother with the make shift route?

That said, it may work and is certainly worth a shot. The graphics card should come with a PCIe adapter you need (they usually do). If it doesn't work out well, just buy a PSU. I mean, you're getting a $150 CPU... a $150 graphics card and a $150 motherboard and you can't even shell out $80~$100 for a decent PSU?

omg I feel honored, Johnny may I just say that I have great deal of respect for when you were running your review site, very honest and insightful reviews on PSU.

As for the PSU in this system, I have no problem shelling out for a 520HX or 620HX Corsair, but if my old unit works, i see no need to throw it away. Plus I have no plans on overclocking. Also I only buy quality PSU, so a corsair unit for me is bare minimun, none of that ANtec or enermax and the other no name cheap brands. :)

Keep in mind here in Canada you can't find $80 quality PSU that are worth a dime, they all start at around $120 for 520W, and considering that 620W ought to be the new bare minimum even more.
