Buy.com got the Octane 128GB for $120 AR ($30). I think the OP is more like wrong pricing and now the link is dead.

No, the OCZ Petrol 128gb (not octane) has been available for between $55-65 AR for the last week at various retailers. It's NOT a pricing error.

Buyer beware though, the OCZ Petrol drives have HORRIBLE failure rates. Just look up the newegg reviews. And that, my friend, is why the firesale price.

Yeah, if you have a good backup solution why not give it a try though. Good enough for the price. If the rebate would have worked on more than one drive, I would have picked up at least two for raid and just be sure my backups stay current.

That price I never saw. The cheapest I saw was on MC which is still $100 AR. Do you have a link?

Sold out/dead pretty much everywhere by this point. It was listed on Slickdeals for both ANTOnline.com and Buy.com. For the fact of the matter, I found the deal and pointed it out to Gillbot (the ANTOnline.com deal) as I knew he was looking for a larger SSD for cheapsies, which iirc he ordered one. About 4 hours later Slickdeals pointed out the Buy.com deal which amounted to about $10 cheaper.

Both Buy.com (jacked up the price) and ANTOnline.com (out of stock/no longer listed) deals are dead at this point.

Petrol and octane are based upon OCZ's new(ish) indilinx everest controller. Neither have the issues that ocz's sf 2281 based drives had. I only counted 11 petrol reviews on newegg, and around 20 or so octane reviews. Petrol averaged 3 *, and octane was around 3.5 *. Don't get me wrong, I'm not generally an OCZ fan, but 5 doa complaints out of 11 total reviews isn't exactly a large statistical sample.

And people are more likely to take the time to express a bad experience more so than a good experience or working-as-intended experience.

I think it all comes down to how much your time is worth ?

If you don't mind troubleshooting the SSD for hours if something were to go wrong, then it's a great deal. But if you're one of those (myself) that don't want to bother dealing with it etc... then I think it's probably worth it to pay extra and get a intel/crucial/plex.

last thing I want to be doing is reinstalling the OS and reinstalling all the programs.

I'm using it for my game install drive. My Force 3 has been running amazing as an OS boot drive and critical applications drive.
