SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) -- The pedestrian who was struck and killed during a police chase in Santa Ana was identified Friday as 33-year-old Andrew Scott Reisse. Coworkers described him as a "brilliant mind."

Reisse, a Santa Ana resident, was walking in a crosswalk when he was struck and killed at the end of a police chase Thursday.

Reisse's father, who lives in Virginia, said his son moved to Southern California about a year ago. Reisse co-founded Oculus VR in Irvine, a company known for its virtual reality headsets for immersive gaming.

"Andrew was a brilliant computer graphics engineer, an avid photographer and hiker who loved nature, a true loyal friend, and a founding member of our close-knit Oculus family," the company said in a statement.

Was someone from Google driving the car? California is that place, so yeah, it is amazing there are not more random deaths. .

I get pissed off when anyone suggests there's anything ok about high speed chases, when the media sensationalizes them and makes them attractive to do. They kill people.

A lot of North American police departments, if not most, have banned their officers from engaging in high speed chases due to the huge risk to public safety. Why California hasn't done this is beyond me. It's just not worth it. Cops usually catch up to the crooks eventually.

I enjoyed The Oculus in Wrath of the Lich King. I heard a lot of other players didn't though.

Yup, though idiots will be idiots. It's the cops that need to use their heads and stop escalating the situation.

Exactly. I mean what could go wrong if criminals know that all they have to do to successfully leave the scene of their crime is to jump behind the wheel of a vehicle and speed away.

Maybe fewer innocent bystanders maimed and killed to catch a guy that's usually already well known to the cops.

I'm always a little perplexed when pedestrians are struck by vehicles while crossing a roadway. When you cross a road, don't you look around, and pay attention to traffic? I mean, a high speed chase? Sirens, roaring engines, screeching tires. Guy must have been wearing earbuds and texting.
