i read post by Icecool83 that he had he's 1700(?) ocerclocked to something like 170mhz over on a ECS K7S5A board

i got the same board with latest BIOS but no overclocking setting to be sen
plus the software program SoftFSB doesnt support the board.

i do recall hearing ages ago that theres an alternative BIOS to download for overclocking ?!?!

thanx

Although I would love it to be a 1700+ at 170 MHz FSB, the truth is that it's only a 1600+ at 150 MHz FSB. Nonetheless, I feel pretty happy about the resut since I only paid the equivalent of USD$60 for the board. The links provided above are good and are essentially all I used (though I ended up changing that POS chipset heatsink for stability). Originally I was using CHFSB, but I later moved to the overclocking BIOS since it's more convenient. I'm still hoping they add intermediate steps between 150 MHz FSB and 166 MHz since my XP is not unlocked and it doesn't post at 166 MHz :)

I have the 0325 BIOS, with FSB Settings of like 100/133/138/150/166, but I need to flash to the newest one that has 143 and 147.

When I put my XP 1800+ on 150, the system posts, but Windows doesnt load?!?!?!

I need to try like 147. I am right now on 138, and im running 1600 MHz (XP 1900+)...

Yea, so go flash the BIOS!

The K7S5A is a great budget board that is very stable. It is NOT a good board for overclocking.

anyone tried SpeedFan405 ???

this seems real neat.

ya can up ya FSB on the run. u can get the 142 & 147 FSB ya after. and like i said on the run too.

seems all good, upped my scores on 3DMark2001SE (400+ marks) & PCMark2002 (300+ CPU)

ya can get it here

PS got my 1700 running at 147 FSB (1617mhz) real smooth
but cant get 150 mhz to stick, even when i have PCI @ 30 & mem @ 100 concurrently :( :(
