o'cing temps

im planning on overclocking my barton 2800+ when i get it back in a few days (in for repairs) and was wondering whats the temp i should start backing off a little, when overclocking?

I try to keep the cpu below 50C (under load prime95). But it tends to get hotter. 55C

Temperatures less than 60C arnt supposed to significantly decrease the CPU lifespan. An overclock might need to run cooler to stay stable... Some of this is trial and error...

Yeah, different people say different things. My general philosophy is keep it below 60c under full load.

id say keep it 45 or below optimally,but 60 won't kill it either...

Mine is screwed up somehow. 72LOAD and 68IDLE. I have my 2500+ OCed to 3000+ (200FSB). I have my HSF on right and i have thermal grease on it and i have 4 case fans. They are all clean too. I dont know what the heck is wrong with it. Also my ambient room temp is around 80F. (I am using stock cooling) Anyone have any suggestions?

(Oh yeah my Vcore is at 1.8 but that shouldn't affect the temps that much)

You sent your CPU back "for repairs?" What happened? This is not a good sign. You cannot repair a CPU. There's a possibility it was DOA, especially if you purchased a return/clearance item. But if you purchased it new, you probably fried it the first time out. What happened? We would like to help you from having it happen again.
