Could someone give me a step by step to overclocking a Duron 650 on an ASUS
A7V. The system is setup and running great in jumperfree mode. But when I
tried jumper mode it locked up before windows. Even at 5V and mutil 5.
Also, do I need to make any changes to the Bios?
Thx in advance.

Here's what I have.
Duron 650(unlocked)
Asus A7V
Global Win FOP 32 w/Delta (loud ass) fan(a touch of Radio Shack Thermal compound)
128mb Mushkin hsdram
Hercules GF2 MX 32mb
SBLive Value
Adaptec 2930CU SCSI card
HP 9200i CDRW(scsi)
IBM 75gxp Deskstar 15gbhd
Fong Kai 320 case with 300w ps(and 120mm exhaust fan)

Also I got it to run at 750mhz (1.7v/7.5) but that seems to be the best I can do so far, still messing with it.=)

Let me know what you think/suggestions.

Thx
B

crank that badboy up to 1.8volts and set the clock to 8 it should run at thet no problem then try 1.85volts and the clock to 9 most of the 650 will run a 900 no problem. Have fun and good luck. BTW what bios are you running on you board and what are your case and cpu temps. be sure to keep an eye on the temps these chips run hot.

Bios 1002. I seem to be able to adjust the voltage with no problem but as soon as I up the multiplier past 7.5 I have problems. Sometimes when I start up it takes me almost directly into the bios. It gives me a message about the dram frequency not matching. Any thoughts on that. Should I update my bios to 1003? As far as cpu and mobo temps even at 1.85v its 40c at idle and around 42c-43c with load. That's okay right? =)
Thx again for your help.

Okay, I got it tun at 800mhz(8/1.8v) then i tried to to 9/1.85 and got nothing, the monitor didnt even com out of sleep mode. So I went down to 8.5/1.85 and the system post 850mhz then jumps right into the bios and gives me this message under the advanced tab/dram : "During your last boot up your system hung for an improper dram: bus frequency ratio. Your system bus is now running in safe mode (100/100). blah blah blah. I cant get the system to do anything other than going into the bios until I go back to 8/1.8v. Dont get me wrong 800mhz is great and all but I would love to get aleast to 900mhz.
Thx again

I had problems with 1003 bios no im useing the 1004 bios no problems. is your ram pc100 or 133 and your mobo temps are high my mobo temps are never above 33c so it sounds like you have a heat problem your mobo temps are what your cpu temps should be. and the cpu temps are about 10 to 15 higher then what your mobo temps are.

I have my Duron 600@950 right now. It's a little warm at 47C with 1.85 volts but she's stable. The highest I've had it is 978mhz (9.5 x 105). I can't be sure if the 1004 was the source of my probs but since I flashed back to the 1003 I've had less lockups myself.

What is your memory set at? try using "by spd" first. If no go them try 3,2,2.

What is your fsb set at? Mine at most (unreliably) could handle 105, but you have better memory. I'd eliminate that for now and set it at 100.

I got that weird message myself about the dram frequency even before I touched the fsb and I had mine set at 100mhz (pc100)?

What is your I/O voltage set at? I've read a few posts with problems where they had it at 3.5 (goofy default) try it at 3.3v

Was your chip unlocked to begin with or did you unlock it? There is a rumor that the locked ones overclock better. Since mine overclocks so well I believe it. Damn it will only POST at 1000mhx 10x!!! Need more voltage (better cooling too maybe).

Good luck.

THANK U THANK U THANK U, It was the memory. I actually set it to 3-3-3 just for the hell of it and it runs great @ 900, very stable (ran Delta Force 2(a very cpu intesive game) no problems!) 37c idle 39-40c under heavy load. Now I'm shooting for 950 and 3-2-2 =)
Thx again.
