Hi,

I am new to the forums and to overclocking. I read the guide at the top of this forum which helped quite a bit but didn't talk about my problem. I am having a problem though getting past 300Mhz or 1200FSB. I thought I had read somewhere that OCing past this will up the 1333FSB which maybe where I'm not getting past post.

Info: Just built the system a few days ago.

Asus P5N32-E 680i mobo 1205 Bios Intel Q6600 @2.7Ghz (currently), 2x 1GB G-skill DDR2-800 memory, Tuniq 120 with AS5 cooler, MSI 7600GT video, 500GB Samsung HD, PC Power & Cooling 750.

If you need anything else please letm me know.

OK so in the bios I can set the FSB only which I have set to 1200Mhz which means I am at 300Mhz per core or 2700Mhz total. If I OC to 1201 or higher (max I tried up to was 1333). I can't get past post, no matter how high I go with Vcore. I have the FSB/DDR set to unlinked and the memory is at stock 800mhz. How can I get past this block?

If I link the FSB/DDR and set to 1:1 ratio what will that make my memory speed with a stock set of 1066FSB? Should I link them, I'm at at 3:4 ratio now (CPU-z).

Thanks for the help,

Dallas

I should also mention that at 2.7Ghz I have now run Prime 95 for 2 hours with no problems and max core temp (Core 0) not exceeding 50C, my Q6600 is also G0 stepping.

You need to lower your RAM speed considerably. You either want it set @ 266/533 DDR or 333/667 DDR.

OK I will lower it, it is also setup though so that I can't go below 500 (BIOS limit). I tried 500 @2.4Ghz and it wouln't post. Should I go with a lower ram speed and keep at 2.7 and see if it boots or lower ram and increase FSB at the same time and see if it boots?

Thanks for the help,

For starters, you don't have FSB set to 1200Mhz, it's set to 300 Mhz. It is quad-pumped giving you that 1200 Mhz number total; it has no affiliation with the amount of processors or cores you have.

Also if you have your memory set to 800Mhz then you really need to lower it back down to 400Mhz, memory is double-pumped; 400Mhz double pumped equals 800Mhz; or DDR2-800.If set to 800Mhz, double-pump that you have DDR2-1600(Doesn't even exist, I think it's DDR3 by this speed xD).

If you want to run a 1:1 ratio, set memory like above, and then set your FSB to 400 Mhz.

I believe I understand the FSB and DDR settings. I guess I was trying to convey that in the bios you can't set the FSB to 300, you have to set it at 1200Mhz for the same meaning (at least in my Bios), I understand that the number filled in in the bios is to be divided by 4 to get the actual FSB.

So to convey my problem maybe more accurately, I can't obtain an FSB over 300mhz with memory set at 400mhz (DDR2 -> 2*400 = 800mhz). What can I do to get over the block at 300mhz FSB? I believe that there is a reason for this with the Q6600 but I can't remember or find where I read it at.

Thanks again for the help,

OK so I tried to lower my ram speed and did to 375mhz (DDR2 = 750) @2.1 volts all auto timings. (The ram calls for 2.1-2.2v, do I need to go up to the 2.1 volts?)
If I lower the ram speed anymore, I tried 667, 700, & 725 my computer won't post and will freeze opening page and won't let me even access the BIOS until I let it sit off for 5 minutes or so.

With the memory at 375mhz I was able to reach 312mhz FSB (2.8Ghz) @ 1.3volts but going higher wouldn't let me post.

I've been able to be stable for 3hrs prime 95 (all cores) at 2.7Ghz 1.2125v and memory at 400 mhz (DDR2= 800) 1.875v 4,4,4,12 timings. Maxe core (Core 0) temp at 49C.

Any more ideas? I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong everywhere I read people hit 3.0 easily even with this board but nobody (reviews) explain what they had to set the memory at to acheive this.

Thanks for the help,
