Today I just turned my 800 Tbird down from 1ghz back to 800. I figured, why not use less voltage and get slightly better temps. Around mid-May or so, I'm gonna buy a cheap full-tower and mod it for quite a few fans so that I get better air-flow. I will also be stepping on one of those "Core" heatsinks from CPUfx.com, I think it'll be necessary in the summer, regardless of OCing or not. So I figured I'd go back to 800 until then, hopefully gaining better temps in the process.
Anhow, I'm pretty well running at the same temps @ 1.70 volts instead of 1.82. I was not doing any FSB OCing. I don't trust that. But my main question is, if I'm OCing and getting the same temps as not OCing, am I wearing down my proc? When you OC, temp is the primary concern, which comes from the fact that you more often than not have to up the V Core. Or is it the simply fact that your giving your proc more voltage than was intended, regardless of how good your temps are, the higher voltage is the culprit that is wearing the proc? Any help appreciated. If it its just a temp concern, I may as well go back 2 a Ghz.
