OCing i7-3770 on Asus P8H61

Hi everyone,

is OCing an "i7-3770 non-K" to 4.1 GHz on an "Asus P8H61 Pro" mobo possible?

I have a Corsair H55 CPU cooler.

I read online that I need a "Z" mobo for OCing and/or a "K" CPU, but I wanted to check with you, so a simple Yes or No from you guys will suffice.

Thanks

Intel K processor and Z chipset are needed to freely increase multiplier.

However, Sandy Bridge [and Ivy Bridge?] have a "limited unlocked" feature for Turbo Boost, allowing an increasing of multiplier by 4. For Core i7-3770, standard multipliers for 1, 2, 3, 4 cores are 39, 39, 38, 37; they can be increased to 43, 43, 42, 41.

But I would need a Z mobo for that, right, because I tried fiddling with various options in BIOS, and couldn't increase the multiplier above 34, as if it was locked?
I didn't try to increase the voltage.

The only thing I could increase is the base clock from 100 to 103 MHz, which effectively boosts the speed from 3.4 GHz to 3.5 GHz. Anything above that ends up with an OC error on boot, though.

Thanks

With a Z68 or Z77 motherboard you will be able to set the speed as high as 4.3GHz with all four cores working. On your current H61 board you have no option to overclock beyond the miniscule BCLK move you already made.
