OCing FSB

Hey all, I recently upgraded from a celeron 300a system with an Asus P3B-F board to a Duron 900 system with a Gigabyte GA-7VTXE. I was exploring my OC options and since this Gigabyte board doesn't have nearly all the BIOS overclocking options my Asus did, I started pushing the option I had, which is FSB. I took it up to 110 (making my speed 1008) and everything seemed ok, stability was still fine, heat was still in the very low 40s after a few hours, so it looked ok, but I was starting to get really weird glitches like startup programs saying they couldn't find files, 3dMark crashing out regularly and when I checked the log file it said it couldn't find some of the texture files...everything else I ran was perfect, but it seems like taking the FSB up affected my IDE performance pretty negatively. Anyone care to comment on how high the FSB CAN be taken, what else I can try seeing as that the CPU itself can easily handle this speed, and probably at least another 50 mhz and maybe even 100 (108 mhz OC only raised my temps like 3 degrees)

I've always had all the options right in front of me to tweak as i needed so now that i actually have to mess with switches i figured i'd check around. Anyone else here ever mess with a Duron 900 to see how high it would go?

You do realize that as you Overclock your FSB you are also overclocking your AGP and PCI bus. The FSB can be taken as high as to where the system is still stable. In your case, I would say lower the FSB because you are not stable.

If you beleive you have a good CPU, try upping it all the way up to 133 FSB. That way all your pci and agp components will be under spec. Keep your eye on the temp though.

Crap, kinda let this thread die. Anyway, I unlocked my cpu and at that point I realised my stupid Mobo doesn't have multi adjustment, so I'm kinda stuck for now. I am currently shopping around for a decent motherboard that will allow all tweaking (possibly Purple Ray) and will def change the multiplier at that point. Until then, will try 133. My cpu is good, but I dunno if it's THAT good. I tried 120 and it wouldn't load Windows, but maybe for some reason that was a HD issue or something
