OCing CPU..result of lost data?!

Hi guys,

I read in the OC Guide that OCing CPU too much might result of lost data when doing work. When it mean lost data, that mean like when you try to download stuff, burn stuff, save stuff, etc....the data doesn't go through 100% as with the original stock speed?

Anyway, I got a 3400+ Clawhammer @ 2200mhz. Since it got the 1mb cache, but behind 200mhz as the Newcastle core. It bother me so much that the Newcastle have 200mhz speed. So I'm going to OC my CPU to 2400mhz speed to outperform the stock Newcastle. Most of the thing I do is Downloading tons of stuff and play game as I download. I don't know if increasing 200mhz will result in data lost? What if I download anime, but some file got corrupt cuz the CPU loose the data?

Thanks

You just need to make sure that your SATA drives are on locked ports. If not, then you'll encounter data corruption.

Oh I see. Then can you give me a hint on where to enable locked port for my SATA HDD? It must be somewhere on the BIOS right?

If you mean on the mobo, then there are only 4 SATA port on my mobo, 2 out which are use for RAPTOR or something. The two left is just for regular port. If you mean to locked on them, I guess there must be the switch lock somewhere on the mobo?

Two of the four SATA ports (I think the ones provided by the NF3 chipset) are not locked, and will be overclocked along with the CPU. The other two are provided by another controller and are locked.

I see. So all I need is to put my SATA cable into a locked port right? No switch needed to change? Well okay, in that case, I'll try to find which one is locked in my manual.

Okay here it is:

There are two port from nForce3 support & the other two are PDC20579 support.

So I should get my cable into the PDC20579 port one?

That's only one reason you could get corrupted data with your pc overclocked. Any instablitly, even if you don't notice it, can casue data corruption. To be absolutely sure you need to run a good stress test for an extended period of time, IE; Prime 95 at least overnight. I was running my 3.6es at 4.1ghz 24/7 with absolutely no problems except every 4 or 5 days I would get a bad results error in Folding @ Home. I backed off to 3.9ghz and have had no problems since. If it aint prime stable, it just aint stable😉

Alright thanks guy, I have learned my lesson is to set to the locked port before OCing. Btw, the nForce port are the one that is not locked right? I just want to be sure before I put it wrong.

Btw, will 200mhz OCing make any difference at all? I know the 3400+ Claw and Newcastle run the same, but if the Claw with the Newcastle speed, then it would be cool. I don't know if that 200mhz will make anything fast at all. Should I go for it, or not?

Yeah, for some reason I must have assumed the OP had prior knowledge of P95 (a bad thing to do, regardless of whether or not he does). I've had a bad streak of those dyslexic moments lately, giving incomplete information...
