OC'ING a Laptop

Can OC'ING a laptop be done? if have done it before post the model of your laptop, default speed and the highest stable speed you got.

Even if it were possible via say 'Soft FSB' chances are it would overheat ,they cut the cooling pretty close on these things!

As Assimilator1 said, if it was possible, I wouldn't recommend it. Big chance of overheating and instabilities.

You could just check and see if your model laptop supports cpu upgrades. My Dell Inspiron 4000 came with a Celeron 600 and it was in a zif socket. I removed it and installed a PIII 850 (which is the highest my model can handle, they changed to PIIIm after that.) It made a pretty big difference in the overall performance. What is the make and model of your laptop?

Toshiba Tecra 8100 Laptop, PIII 650, i think mine supports upgrades i'll check that later on tho.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you switched out the processor, you wouldn't be overclocking. Overclocking deals with specific changes that boost the proc speed.

As far as changing the processor out, be very careful. Alot of manufacturers solder the CPU onto the board directly instead of slotting. Obviously if your model is made this way... forget about it.
