OCING a 165 with the stock heatsink

Someone said to me..

I know several people with Opteron 165s w/ the stock heatsink running 2.6 GHz under 50C full load.

Lies or the truth? how do they get it to run that cool if so?

I suppose it might be possible if the CPU is running at stock voltage and the ambient temp is low. It seems unlikely however.

Edit: The IHS could have been removed also.

I ran my 165 with the stock HSF for a while - got to 2.565 GHz temps were upper 40's. I upgraded to the XP-90....much better. Running a lot cooler now.

Same with me. I had it at 2.53 with stock hsf and no vcore increase. I got an xp-90 and now it is at 2.6 with no vcore increase and is doing it cooler.

Yep 2.5-2.6...done it on twice so far.

i was wondering if the xp90 was going to help that much. seems like it can help w/oc a little bit. i'm about to jump on the xp90 now.

XP-90 doesn't really help achieve a higher oc (maybe 100 mhz?, at least at stock vcore, might be bigger difference if you increase the vcore), but it does make it run quieter than stock hs/f and cooler which makes me happy 😀
