So I am stable at around 4738 MHz (x46) with my 3570k IB.

Here's what I am using:

Asus P8Z77-V Pro
Hyper 212+
Corsair 600T


Running Prime95 (only for 20 min at the moment) with "Blends", all four cores are operating at around 4738 MHz and my CPU temperature is at 62 deg with chassis fan turned low and 212+ at 1300RPM, and about 55 deg C with chassis fan at max.

So while Prime95 didn't show any issues with heating, should I be concerned with OC'ing the 3570k this high?
 
If its stable and cool I don't see why it would be an issue. The main issue with OCing that high is temps but you seem to have them under control.

That said, I find it very hard to believe those temps are accurate at that speed with that (or virtually any) air cooling. What are you using to monitor temps?

Oh wait, you're running blend. Run small FFT instead 😉 make sure you have the latest version of prime that uses AVX too.
 
I take that back. The asus monitoring tool doesn't seem to be right. I tried RealTemp, and its estimating core temperature going up to 84 deg C for Core 2. I dont know how accurate RealTemp is either.

But with the chassis fans full on, RealTemp is indicating max temp of 51 deg C.

Very and ASUS isn't. Real temp is actually measuring how far you are from thermal throttling as reported by the cores themselves. ASUS uses thermal probes in the socket iirc.

A chassis fan is not going to drop your temps by 30C. You must be looking at idle vs load.

I don't know why, but mine is like that, though it is on an Asrock Extreme4. The 3570k reports at... 4300.9. Ok, before today it was showing like 4380 or whatever. Guess it fixed itself?

It's probably spread spectrum at work. It varies the frequencies.
 
2is, a little off-topic here, but I noticed you also have the same motherboard. What software that came with your motherboard did you install? I installed all the Asus utilities, but I am thinking perhaps I don't need them all, especially as my primary drive is only 128 GB SSD.

And that first time around, I let the motherboard auto-tune my OC to see what point it could push it to by itself. For both "Fast" and "extreme" tuning cases, it sets the BCLK to 103 for some reason. The optimized default setting is 100.3. Don't know what gives. 103 better for memory tuning?
 
I installed the entire suite as well but don't have it loading on startup. I never used the auto tuning so I'm not sure why it's changing the bclk. Bclk overclocking is just begging for instability IMO.
 
I too recommend staying at 100Mhz bclk. You'll have an easier time troubleshooting CPU related stability issues than trying to figure out everything else.

Real temp is what I'd always recommend to check temperatures. It's reading the temps reported by each core and showing you how far from the thermal limit you are. 84c in Prime is a bit high because with IBT you'd run up to mid 90s. You can leave it if you want, but honestly I wouldn't recommend it for the long haul.

Try x45 Multi and bclk 100 with a +.011 offset and LLC off and I bet you'll be running better temps and 200Mhz isn't that much.

I hit virtually identical temp with the latest version of Prime when I do Small FFT (with AVX) as I do using IBT.

Older versions of Prime that don't use AVX don't stress it as hard though. That said, I don't know which version the OP is using.

At what speed? If you run IBT at "very high" stress level and a pretty good overclock I bet you'll see load temps go much higher than smallFFT Prime. It's always been that way for me.
 
Temps have always been pretty close between the two at any speed I've tried them at. If anything Prime may get a degree or two warmer because its continuous vs taking a break after each pass.

EVEN if Jesus personally peed on your CPU while you ran it. He couldn't make IVY-Bridge 60C on load. 😀😀

Speaking of cooling, good news! Since it's such a hot week I'm liberating you from your trolling duties for the next week so that you may leave your cave and seek out a cooler climate during this extended heatwave.

He is correct though. Bozo or not, those aren't accurate temps with that set up.

Mine stays in the 60's (though not right now because ambient is crazy high due to the temps we've been having), but I've done quite a bit to make it that low and am using about .9V less than the OP is. He's in the 80's-90's (if not throttling even) I guarantee you.
 
I am running exactly the same 46X103 as the OP with the same load voltage. I am mid-80s with an H100 and two GT15 fans running LinX. I haven't had any stability issues with 103 bclk, but I will try 48X100 and see if it will run with the same voltage and remain under 90C.

What is the disadvantage of running a slightly higher bclk?? Just stability??

The Asus temp monitor was an obvious error. It seems it doesn't monitor the actual core temp. With RealTemp and with those OC settings, was hitting 84 high with Prime95 in "blends". The ambient was at 27 deg C.
