What did Bernie Mac do again?

Nothing. He was a diversion (ex convict) to allow Matt Damon's character access through the security doors to reach the elevator.

Dude! He was more important than THAT! Remember the scene where Matt Damon pretended to be from the Nevada Gaming Commission? He was essential in allowing Matt Damon to pickpocket the codes from Benedict's pocket. That's pretty damn important I think.

Now that old dude at the beginning... elliot Gould... what in the hell did he do?

The old guy was Lyman Zirga...he ran a con perfectly on Benedict, which is difficult. Then he faked a heart attack to provide a diversion for them to switch the cameras.

Also: it seems like elliot had to take a lot of risks. After all he is real rich.

No I meant the other old guy... the guy you are speaking of was Sal. There was that other dude smokin the cigar at the beginning.. they all met at his mansion or something early on. But it looks like Eghck cleared it up for me in the post above, so it's all good.

if you're talking about who had the easiest job, that's gotta be Ruben (elliot gould). he was The Bankroll, and basically didnt have to do anything except supply money (which he already had)

if you're talking about least involved, then its too hard to say, although the two brothers had the lowest, most peon-like roles

i've seen that movie soooo many times
