A fearless Hawaii-based conservationist has created a stunning video of herself swimming with a great white shark in an effort to make people realize the predators aren't as scary as they seem.
"We wanted to show that this is what they're really like — not the Hollywood movie where you put a drop of blood in the water and the animals go crazy," Ocean Ramsey told the Daily Telegraph.

Ramsey, a professional scuba instructor, began diving with sharks at age 14.

Ramsey, an experienced free-diver, glided through the coastal waters of Mexico along with the feared ocean beasts to highlight the need for conservation efforts.
The species is currently on the verge of extinction.

Ramsey embarked on the shark swim to highlight the important of conservation efforts. Great white sharks are on the verge of extinction.

"The goal was to go and find some great white sharks and collect video footage of their natural behavior, but also, if the opportunity arose and the conditions were right, to actually interact with them," she added.

one of the things on my bucket list is to take a trip down to guadalupe island in mexico and cage dive with great whites.

maybe after the fact but i'd definitely want to first do it in a cage to see how shared shitless i would get. i watch a lot of shark stuff and know that they aren't nearly as dangerous as the media and people make them out to be, but still, being in the water with something potentially 3x bigger than me weighing over a ton is scary shit regardless.

if these were bullsharks then hell no i wouldn't do it without a cage.
 
OK, so great white sharks aren't as dangerous as portrayed in Jaws or other shark movies. But that doesn't mean that they're safe. She's going to end up like that assclown in Alaska who wanted to prove grizzlies weren't as bad as they're portrayed with the cunning plan of being digested by one. A wild animal is still a wild animal, which means they're unpredictable. If something has a few thousand pounds on you and razor sharp teeth or claws, you shouldn't be in a hurry to try to give it a hug. You'll end up dying like a jackass and making the exact opposite point you're attempting to make.

She has been a tremendous asset in raising awareness of the shark's plight. I had no idea that Great White was in such Dire Straits.

Yeah, i agree. Got two infractions for quoting those and there was absolutely nothing wrong with them. They were showing the star of the show in a one piece bathing suit...something you would see on Yahoo Sports.
