Here's my 3DMark2001 comparison of a NF7-S / Mobile 2600+ @ 2500mhz / stock 6800 GT OC / 216 DDR @ 2.5-3-3-11 vs a Chaintech VNF3-250 / Stock Athlon 64 3200+ Newcastle / stock 6800 GT OC / 200 DDR @ 2.5-3-3-10. The only difference is the video drivers, but I think with 3DMark2001 the limiting factor is the CPU in my case. The Athlon 64 is a nice improvement...

I asked a similar question a couple weeks ago and got the same links. Very interesting and certainly makes the case for sticking with Socket A for a while. Buy those reviews use older video cards which may be holding back the Athlon64 processors.

Boogak, in your benchmarks (thank you very much for those, btw) I noticed you are using a next gen video card, which is great, but you are also using different video card drivers for each system and wonder if having the latest drivers gave the Mobile XP rig a boost.

I've seen some of these tests before, and I always ask the same question: How come the A64 wasn't overclocked, too? If you compare the mobile to the 3400+ (probably the 2.2GHz Clawhammer), there's a bit bigger difference, and I suspect most people can get to 2.4GHz anyway. So I'm still having trouble deciding...

nonetheless nice results...

I just got my Athlon 64 and have not started overclocking yet.

I don't think the drivers will make that huge a difference, I believe with the sheer brute force of the 6800 GT in 3DMark2001 it's CPU limited. However I am returning my Chaintech VNF3-250 (which was used for the benchmarK above) due to flakiness (it will power up but not POST sometimes, just beeps. When it does work, it's great though.) and will be installing XP on an Asus K8V SE Deluxe instead. I'll be using the WHQL drivers that the mobile XP used. I'll post benchmarks again.

I'll be posting benchies comparing a 1.2ghz Athlon4 mobile with only 128k total cache 300DC-DDR, a t-bred B 2400+@stock 266DC-DDR, 2.2ghz 400DC-DDR and A64 3400+ 512k cache and their performance with a 6800GT@431/1.1ghz *basicaly BFG 6800U OC speed* tonight. I'm just waiting on the PSU for my A64 boxen so I can finish up the benchies. The true330 I had was overstressed by the GT getting added I believe and went belly up. I'd go as far as to caution others with a similar setup to upgrade PSUs because though it may run perfect *mine did* it may shorten the PSU's life, then again it may have just been it's time and the GT being added recently just coincidence.
