OC'd 3570K enough for GTX 1080?

I have an i5-3570K at 4.2Ghz along with an R9 290. I'd been thinking of a GTX 1070 as an upgrade but now with the 1080's price cut, I might consider that instead. Is the overclocked Ivy Bridge i5 enough to keep up with a 1080, or would the 1080 be in some sense wasted? I use a 70" 4K display for gaming, but generally game at 1080p now (with 1440p for older games that the 290 can handle at that resolution). I'd like to move that to 1440p in general and 4K when possible.

For the most part, yes it will be enough. There will be some exceptions like BF1 MP where the CPU will be your limiting factor, but not many games out there as CPU hungry as BF1

BF1 MP 64-player maps and MMOs will still stutter (along with a few other scenarios). Because those depend on your CPU and like more (and/or faster) cores.

It was one of the reasons I upgraded from i5-3570K @ 4.0 --> i7-6700K @ 4.5

Outside of those, 3570K is probably fine.
