So I decided to play some GT5, pulled out the cockpit, plugged in the Fanatec power and the buttkicker, then turned the wheel on and sat down to play. Instead of the usual display, I got three red dashes on the wheel LCD, and it wouldn't go into PS3 mode.

I rebooted it a couple times, then hit the internet and started searching. I'm reading all these horror stores about the dashes of death, and Fanatec's horrible customer service, and how some people were able to fix it with a firmware flash, etc etc etc.

After about 15 minutes of this, and learning how the procedure worked, I'm about to download the firmware and give it a try when I run across a post talking about how one person had a dead USB port on the PS3, so I went to try another port...I had never plugged in the USB cable...whoops :(

Plugged in the cable and everything is fine.

Yesterday I rewrote a rather complicated (and completely uncommented) 1500ish line SQL proc that had been broken in an application upgrade that had stumped two other people in my department, today I can't figure out how to plug in 3 cables to play a video game.

Fail.

I did something on par with you forgetting to plug in your USB cable.

About a week ago I got back from a trip, the longest I have been away from the office. I plugged my laptop in to the docking station and hit the power button. Nothing happened, my external screens didn't pop on like they normally did. I opened the laptop lid and the laptop's own screen worked. After checking the wires, both to the docking station and for power, I was getting frustrated because nothing was working. I was about to give our IT guy a call then I realized that unlike normal the power lights on the monitors weren't orange like they normally are in standby, they were completely off. As soon as hit the power buttons the monitors popped back on.

Either my monitors go from stand-by to off after a few days or they lost power sometime while I was gone and don't automatically come back into standby when power is restored. I narrowly avoided being one of "those" calls to the IT department where they just laugh at you after they get off the phone.
