Occasional Lack of Recognition of Seconday IDE Devices

Every once in a while, when I restart one of my old computers (a Dell Precision 220), sometimes it fails to detect my two optical drives on the secondary IDE channel. Does anyone know a possible cause and solution for this problem?

check your connections. the DVD rom in the family computer here stopped working one day for no reason, some how the ide cable got unplugged. Also check your drivers. The last resort is a format

I just reformatted and reinstalled windows...that's when I've been getting the issues. I haven't checked the drivers yet, so I'll give that a shot. Thanks!!!

Check your cables... sometimes if the IDE cables get folded up they stop working. I don't know why this happens but I had one that was kinked too much and I straightened it and it worked fine

Eek...that definitely might be it...one of my cables is twisted in there right now.
