OC'ability on 3000+,3200+, and 3700+?

I don't want to have to spend more than I have to on a cpu and invest as much as I can into a GPU because I'm a gamer, but I read the oblivion CPU charts and rethought my plan. I was going to get a 3000+ and overclock it, but reviews on newegg show that it mostly can only go up to 2.2ghz, on average the 3200+ reviews show 2.4ghz, and the 3700+ reviews show 2.6ghz all on stock volts or slightly higher. Are there actually differences in how far these processors will go, or are the newegg reviews fake and can all the processors go 2.6ghz+, meaning will they all will pretty much get the same maximum OC? If this is true, and the only difference between these processors is the multiplier(and the cache), I definitely will shoot for a 3000+.

I got my 3000+ (venice) upto 2.5ghz @ 1.55v, most articles or thread I have read about the 3000+ indicate that 2.4-2.6ghz is pretty normal for these cpu's

What will you be using for cooling and what ram? those can play a fairly large role in how far a cpu will overclock, along with the mobo. I've seen some 3000+'s hit 2.6ghz with bigger HSF's (typhoon) but that can be kind of a crap shot hoping for that high. The 3200+'s almost always do 2.6Ghz + and most 3700+'s can do 2.7-2.8ghz with proper cooling.

my 3000+ venice is perfectly stable @ 2.62ghz (24 hours prime stable) @ 1.525 Vcore

i have a Zalman 7700-CU and temps never go above 43 degrees full load...

The average for 3000/3200 is 2.5GHz, plus/minu 0.1GHz. Expect to see 2.6 to 2.7GHz with the 3700. At a core speed of +2.3GHz, the bottleneck is the GPU, not CPU. Of course there is no guarantee when one overclock because there are many other variables that can influence top speed such as the MB, RAM, PSU, etc...

A difference of 200MHz is barely noticeable with the A64 platform.

I was going to use an EPoX 9NPA+ Ultra, a fairly good OC board, and just use value ram, I have no problem using dividers.

newegg user opinions = farts in the wind

E3 Venice 3000+ FTW! preferably an 0517 *PMW or *PAW with a low batch number (good luck finding one). There is a guy here in MSP with batch of 0517 APAWs with high batch number that are okay but overpriced (see sig). I can get SuperPi 1M @2907mhz on air with IHS, not too bad a chip for the money.

E3 3000+ seem to have the most consistent OC results, imho

but right now the way to go is 3800+ if you can swing it
060x *PMW chips are just unreal. saw an 0606 XMPW batch 0088 @MicroCenter yesterday and it was all I could do to resist buying it on the spot. a whole slew of them are hitting 3000 on air.

does an OEM cpu OC less than a retail cpu? A 3700+ is a bit cheaper @ eWiz, with their OEM cpus. Do any of you recommend I buy a chip from there? btw, somebody recommended a 3800+, do you mean a dual-core?

No, oem and retail doesnt matter.

If you want a great ocing chip, buy THIS

I have the same stepping cpu, that week and stepping are amazing. It does 2.95ghz on almost stock voltage. Thats what id recommend. Me and stumblebum both bought ours at the same time.

Of course you cant go wrong with a $100 3200+ venice that does 2.5ghz either.
