From what I've read both top out in the 3.2 GHz range. How much performance difference will I see doing things like video editing given the difference in cache? Any other factors?

Micro Center has the 2140 for $59 and the 4500 for $109. I know the cheaper processor will be the value leader but if there is enough performance difference to matter, I don't mind spending a little more money.

Don't have a MB yet so feel free to recommend that as well. Seems like lots of good P35 chipset boards available these days for about $100.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the rehashed question.

Cache will make a differece in heavy-weight apps. And with Vista, OS itself and background tasks as well will eat up a meaningful amount of CPU cycles. Although I happen to have a wonderful E2140 that I got at the Micro Center :D , I should say the E4500 is the way to go for what you're planning to do. Unless you upgrade your CPU every other months, the extra investment is small for a heavy duty work like video editing. Besides, it seems like E2xx0 overclock is a hit-or-miss and takes quite a bit of voltages in some cases. E2xx0 series are great for multi-tasking light apps (many small apps open with million light background apps) as well as pure overclocking fun, but when it comes to real horse power it lacks behind their big brothers.
