Hi,

Heres my system specs:

CPU: AMD XP 2000+ (locked) bought from googlegear
MOBO: GIGABYTE 7VRXP (i dont like this board...) F12 bios
MEM: SAMSUNG 512mb DDR333 (From googlegear)

in gigabytes bios (retarded) u can increase fsb by incriments of 1mhz and vcore by incriments of 2.5% i can get it to post at 2200+ speeds ( 148mhz fsb) but doesnt load into windows 2000.

I lowered it down to like 145 fsb at 2100+ speeds, it loads into win2k but isn't rock stable.

If i go down to 143 its fairly stable, but why cant i go higher? i have a really good heat sink and a tornado 9 fan on it.

should i get a new mother board? if so can u recommend some please.. willing to spend about $110.

should i unlock the cpu? i have no clue what stepping or how to find it either.

if u guys can help it would be muchly appreciated. thanks

-yosh

I'm running my 1700+ at 144 FSB...any higher, and it causes problems. I have a feeling it's the other components holding back my overclock, since I recently changed HSFs, and dropped my chip temps by over 10C, but have no increase in OCability. Possibly RAM, or video card, or anything else that just doesn't like running that far out of spec.

I had builded 2 different systems with the same mobo, one problem I notice is that this mobo is pretty picky about PSU, I used generic PSU on them and they both fail within a week or so, had to change to better PSU(i.e Antec, Enermax), maybe you can try that.....the other thing I think is that the XP 2000 processors already clocked at very high speed, the palomino core can only go so high, so the speed you get sounds about right. You can try unlock the multiplier, then down the multiplier, this will allow you to up the FSB, but I personally don't think it's worth it. You can also play with the divider to try different ratio.....that might help a bit.....just my $.02:)

What kind of XP is it? Tbred or Palmino (since you said it is locked, I assume it is a palmino)? Palmino - you need a good stepping and lower multiplier (I think 143@12.5 is a fair overclock). Unlock the CPU and use 10 or 10.5 and you will be able to push the CPU pretty far up, until you hit the limit of that samsung DDR (they are not the best overclockers).

Aside from that, definitely consider the other parts (like the PSU as akahai said).

You might want to see if you can boot at 166 FSB, the 7VRXP should have a 1/5 divider. Certain NICs tolerate very little when it comes to bus speed changes. the 1/5 divider will put it back to spec at 166 FSB (I HIGHLY doubt that you will hit 166 at 12.5 unless it is a tbred, but it still probably will not.)

Since you probably have a palmino, you want to unlock it and use a lower multiplier to hit 166FSB to be in spec (if you have a good stepping you will not have to change the vcore).
