OC Newbie help w/AXIA chip + KT7A setup

Hi all,

I'd like to get some advice on how to overclock. I've purchased a Retail 1.2ghz (266 fsb) AMD Athlon and an Abit KT7A from newegg. I checked the CPU and its an AXIA.

What would I have to do to run this system at 1.4+? The retail chip came with a heatsink. Do I need to get a new one? Do I need any special thermal paste? Do I have to unlock it or am I ok since I'm using the abit kt7a?

Thanks for the help!

You have to go in bios and change your multiplier from 9 to 10 (or more). You also have to disable error reporting.. You might have to increase the cpu voltage beyond the default.

Yes..If you are going to overclock you need a better heatsink..I recommend WKB38, Taisol 742 (or the newer copper base, don't have the model number), or alpha 6035 with a good fan. If you have money, you can buy the silverado..

I recommend artic silver 2. get it from the for sale forum for cheap

I have heard that all cpus beyond 1.2 ghz come factory unlocked. You can check visually if the L1 bridges are connected. For information about L1 bridges search the forum. With Kt7a, you don't have to worry about other jumpers etc..

I think the question here is been asked wrong. It's not how do I do to run the system at 1.4+, it's like as if CPU is build to run 1.4+. NO, NO, NO. Sure AXIA chips are very overclockable. But not ALL CPU are created EQUAL.
