oc my 1.6a have to hit reset to boot

I don't know what is going on, when I have it overclocked and power up it does not want to boot, but when I hit the reset it boots fine. could it be the vcore is to low I tried up to 1.55 thats 1.42 acording the hardware monitor. It still does it at 2g but it runs fine up to 2136(have not tried higher). It hangs in the same place as when I first got the system and it needed a bios flash to recognize northwood. Other then having to reach over and hit the reset after hitting the power it runs great even at 2136 no problems what so ever, but it just sucks, you know. any and all sugestions would help, I am new to all this. just upgraded from a 233mx so even 1.6 is flying

forgot to jot down what I got
TH7-2 RAID with1.6a
256 rram
gf3 ti-200
maxtor 40g

ps. temps never went over 45 even with stock sink&fan and gamed down for a few hours

the problem is that during a bootup from the off position you only have default voltage. your bios doesnt add more voltage until it detects the cpu - which of course isnt going to happen w/o more voltage! 😉

you need to do the "wire pin trick".
connecting certain cpu pins to create a higher default voltage.
ive done this easy mod on my P4 1.8A @ 2556. i now have 1.7v as default 🙂

hope this helped.

I did not know that. No wonder, I have to hit Delete and reset the voltage. I suppose I'll have to do the wire trick as much as I hate to. I'm afraid the extra voltage will cause premature cpu failure.
using the sunflower hsf equivalent, so I guess I'm ready to do the wire trick.

Thanks for the info.

Update: I now have my 1.6A@2.4GHz without having to do the wire trick. I can live with having to hit the Reset button, rather than doing the wire trick and tempting fate. 🙂 I forgot, now I only have to reset the bios settings occasionally.
