Im looking to build a gaming PC and try my hand with a modest o/c on the new i7 platform.
This is what I have chosen thusfar..



Case: COOLER MASTER HAF 9329 $159.99


Mobo: ASUS P6T Deluxe $299.99


PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W $139.99


CPU: Intel Core i7 920 $289.99


CPU Cooler: COOLER MASTER V10 Hybrid TEC $139.99


RAM: Patriot Viper 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 $161.99


HD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS 1.5TB $129.99


Subtotal: $1,320.93
Tax: $117.23
Shipping: $39.39
Grand Total: $1,477.55


Any thoughts or suggestions?

why do you need the rampage II motherboard for i7 920? you'll be good with asus p6t deluxe and save some money ;)

after review of the vid cards out there.. i am confused... ati 4850x2 or 4870x2 or nvidia 285... the 295 seems sold out on newegg.

i will take you advise and dump the xtra $$ on the vid card... but which one?

I know you can get an i7 920 for cheaper... I don't suggest that CPU cooler. I have heard bad things about TEC coolers in general. (Not giving performance for the cash)

I don't suggest that hard drive either. I believe those things have some issues. (RAID and Firmware problems?)

What heatsink would you suggest for overclocking to 4.0GHz? Also what you think about this heatsink? Spire Thermax II Heatsink http://www.frostytech.com/arti...?articleid=2348&page=2
I bought i7 920 for $229.99 from microcenter :)

Someone should be along shortly to say that you don't need that big of a PSU unless you are getting 2 GTX295s.

What do you consider a modest O/C?
