I'm looking for the easy way out here. I know several of you already went through this and could save me many hours. Can anyone tell me the correct settings I could enter in my bios to get a fair overclock without losing memory performance? I'd like to see something around 2100Mhz. I'm running stock cooling.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+(Winnie)@1800MHz
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
2x512MB Corsair Twinx1024-3200XL 1T 2-2-2-5
BFG 7800GT OC

Forgot to mention. I can get a stable 1900Mhz by upping the FSB to 211, but don't I should push it any higher using this method...or should I?

Thanks in advance,
-JC

Just a suggestion:

Change the HT to 4x, change the overclock profile in "Jumperfree" configuration to manual and up the cpu frequency to 235, up the CPU voltage to 1.52, and up ur DDR voltage to 1.8

Also, I have my PCI Clock Sync mode set to 33.33Mhz

In your DRAM configuration, the following values:

Max memclock: ddr400
1t/2t timing: 1t
tcl:2
trcd: 2
tras: 5
trp:2

F10 and save settings

Let us know how it goes.

Memory performance really doesn't matter that much.
Faster core clock will more than make up for not running memory synchronously.
Check out the sticky guide at the top of the forum for how to maximise your overclock.

Well, it seems like this dude knows the specific mobo better than I, but winnies are good for at least 2.3, most got 2.5ish unless you got a CBBID which kinda sucked. I had one that did 2.6 on 1.636vcore though.

My bios is still 1006. Should I flash the Bios first?

Nah, there's no need as of yet and if I remember right, if you do flash 1007 onwards, it limits the cpu voltage selection levels in the BIOS

And as Leper said, your CPU can most probably get to 2.3 - 2.5 quite easily, but you can always work your way upwards from 2.1

That's what I'm shooting for, a good starting point.

Okay, I tried everything and then some. However I couldn't ever get it to work. When it did boot It showed wierd stuff like Memory was now 2x154Mhz=308 or HTT was set back to 5. Man I swear this BIOS is possessed! I would reboot and check the bios and memory was set to auto, DOH!

HT=4
PCI=33.3Mhz
PCI-X=100Mhz
CPU Frequency=240
CPU Volt=1.525
DDR Volt =2.75 - I just validated I can push this to 2.8v. I'll try this tonight.
MEM=ddr400
TIMING=1T
TCL=2
TRCD=2
TRAS=5
TRP=2

I found a memory review that said my memory can run stable at 215Mhz with the 2,2,5,2 settings. If I bump them up to 2.5, 4,5,4 it can go up to 310Mhz.

I used 240 for HT. It put my HTT at 960 vs 940@235. I'm I correct in getting my HTT to be as close to 1000 as possible?

I was able to bench my system with the above settings, but the memory was killing it at 2x154@308mhz. So I'm guessing my CPU can take the settings. Now I just have to work on the RAM?

The only way I can overclock this sucker is by keeping everything normal and upping the fsb. It's running at 211 now and memory is reading 422. The light bulb went off. When I get home I'm going to keep memory at DDR400 (like you already said), increase volts to 2.8 and up the timmings to 2.5, 4,4,5,4 to see if I can get this running at 240-250mhz with a 4xht.

Do you think my stock, I have great case cooling, will be able to keep up?

Just for shats&giggles, if you have a SATA HDD on 1or2, put it on 3or4. The stock AMD cooler should be fine for 2.5ghz+ provided you don't get too crazy with voltage. The fan can ramp up to noisy levels under load though.

No, I can't get this thing stable. Anyone want to lend a hand?

Don't you have a memory divider you can set? That's probably the source of your troubles (overclocking memory too far).

I'm guessing if it fails POST memtest it will reset memory to SPD (Auto) or reset your various overclock settings to default (hence your confusion).

Lower your HT to 3x.
Set your memory divider to take its overclock out of the picture.
Make sure your PCI clock is locked (should be by default).

Then adjust your HTT as high as it will go until it fails POST. Then back down by 5%. You might want to try to add some CPU volts to see how far you can push.

YOur memory timings may be too tight

try
TCL=2
TRCD=3
TRAS=8
TRP=3

Run 20 passes of memtest test 5 and 6 to be sure the memory is stable. If you get errors, then its time to loosen the memory timings again

Let me see if I can help. I have a Venice 3000 I just bought a week ago and at first going from socket A to 939 was a whole new ball game when it came to bios settings.

In order to break past 2000Mhz I had to take the advise of my roommate who has a 3700+ socket 754 running at 2500Mhz stable. Drop your HTT to 3, Mem to 133, Timing 2-2-10-2, crank up your mem volts to 2.85v. Leave your vcore stock until you reach your ceiling. Then crank it up to 1.5v w/3.3%. Use your highest multiplier and leave your FSB stock, jump your FSB in 10s until your not stable then back it off 5 from the failed FSB setting. Download AQUAMARK03 and 3DMARK05 for testing stability. I ran AQUAMARK03 on each FSB jump until it crashed then backed it off 10Mhz. Then run 3DMARK05 until it crashs and back off 5Mhz and call it good. Use MBM5 to keep an eye on cpu temps. If your running over 42 degrees without a load your going to need better cooling. I'm @ 2700Mhz Stable w/ 27 degrees no load. AQUAMARK03 score 79,687. Hope this helps.

The MAX-MEMCLOCK value i pointed out to you earlier is THE memory divider. Set it to DDR333 instead of DDR400 with the tight timings of 2-2-5-2, and keep the other settings as before. If your CPU frequency is set to 240Mhz, that divider will have your memory running at 240 * 5/6 = 200, which is well within the limits of your memory.

The memory was setting itself to auto coz of the ASUS crash free bios feature, it resets everything to defaults if any of the settings prevent the system from booting up.

Hope this helps!

With some RAM, you may have to set 2T memclock when overclocking the CPU. I originally had some OCZ Value VX RAM and had to set 2T when overclocking even with default settings after memory divider. The TCCD I got to replace it doesn't exhibit this problem, so it's not solely with the Venice on-board memory controller. Just food for thought as far as pushing the CPU, which is way more important than your RAM speed.
