OC a Voodoo3 3000

I got an old card Voodoo3 3000, just wonder if I can still tune it so it can do some ok gaming on my old setup.

The V3 3000 had a huge heat sink, but no fan. If memory servers, that thing got mighty toasty. Shouldn't be too difficult to mount a fan on the side of the card to blow air over the heat sink. Don't expect miracles in performance though.
 
i had one....and a 3500, they didnt OC too well, if you play games, your time may be better spent upgrading to a newer one, not to mention finding good driveers for those cards is a pain.

I'd say you're best off spending the money you pay for a fan buying a card from eBay. Even the cheapest card you can get now will WAY outperform a Voodoo 3 3000.

Several GeForce 4 MX boards are listed on ebay for under $30.
GeForce2 GTS boards are listed under $20 and probably has similar performance to the GeForce4MX
There are also some GeForce3Ti200 boards listed in the $10-30 range.

Many games now require hardware Texture and Lighting, which the Vodoo3 did not have. So the Voodoo3 won't even work for some games. Picking up something Über-cheap will get you going a lot better than trying to overclock a V3 3000.

I gave away a GeForce2 GTS a while ago. If you know anyone who is into games at all ask them if they have something that's at least a GeForce DDR vintage that you could have in trade for some beer, or $10 or something.
 
mount a 80mm fan on top of the heatsink using plastic zip strips or rubber bands

voodoo3 will run CS nicely

use amegamerlins drivers, he has been making drivers for it for quite some time, you can probably find a link to them by looking around at the http://p197.ezboard.com/bx3dfx

should be able to find a overclocking utility also. this card will kick butt in UT if you run it in GLIDE
 
Thanks for everyone's help. I just ask since I wonder if I can still put my old setup in any use. Seems I can't do too much with it but anyhow I will take Schadenfroh advise and see if there's anything I can do to boost the card. Thanks.
