I have the ATI 9600xt with a 3 fan AGP cooler thing along with BGA Ram sinks. I wanted to know what mem/core levels i should be able to get to. I dled rad linker, and it looks like i can get the Core up to around 600 b4 it fvcks up big time. Is there a good way of doing this, or do i just play it by ear?
 
Try atitool, it automatically finds the max core and max mem frequencies. Some have complained that it doesn't work too well, but some say it works great. It will at least give you a ball park figure though, unless it told you that the max core or max mem is below stock. Sometimes the program doesn't refresh right to artifacts don't go away even when the program has dropped you down to stock.
 
I vote against ATI tool. It clocked my vid card to 605 with "no artifacts." I coudn't open the internet without vpu recover coming up.

Yes, there is a good way to do this. For the 9600xt i would start at 530core and 310mem. Increase (using radlinker) ONLY ONE of them at a time. Find the max core first then find the max mem after that, or visa versa. Since over heating shouldn't be a problem (make sure you got a case fan blowing on those ramsinks or they are useless) you won't have to do extensive testing for each increment. I would d/l 3dmark03 and run it after each increase of 5-10mhz (depends how percise you want to be with your max o/c). If it runs fine without going to vpu recover then that means that your card can take that speed and it isn't stressing the componants beyond their max. Try that out and post back with your results!
 
yeah the only thing i cant figure out is on this 3 fan PCI type card thing, the two fans that are parallell to the vid card are right up against it, i have them so they are blowing the air away from the video card, does this make sense, or should they blow the air right onto it, even though they are about 2 Cm away?

wow i cant believe i didnt think about that. The other problem i face is a long time ago when i put on the RAM sinks, i put the fins facing one way, but now with this fan setup, it will be blowing onto one of the fins instead of through them, is this going to make a big difference?

No, not really as ram sinks never help that much in the first place... Ramsinks on average give you less then 10mhz more oc.
