Has any president gone so far south so quickly in their first 2.5 years? Carter? This is good news for the country however, they finally see him for what he really is. People are indeed wide awake now and paying attention to this man and what he's doing to the country, on purpose.

At least Carter liked his country, just incompetent. This schmuck is doing it on purpose.

Can you imagine what his polls would look like if the media relentlessly hammered him like they did GWB? The number is low now, imagine if the media didn't adore him and the nobel committee didn't nominate him based on things he might do in the future etc etc.
I thought Fox News had more viewers than MSNBC and CNN combined?

Approval ratings this low are not all that uncommon for this point in the presidency, but I don't know if anyone's ever dropped as far as quickly.

Whose fault is it that a lot of people didn't pay enough attention in government and civics classes to understand anything going on around them and are susceptible to the right wing's politicization of every issue?

Were you alive when Bush was President?

I think a lot of it has to do with how much he pissed off the country with his little speech. Americans don't like it when your message is essentially "America is great only because of entitlements".

Unfortunately, I don't think it will translate into defeat in the 2012 election, but still good to see the people waking up.

Predicting elections 2 years out...good luck with that. And if you want to compare his numbers with other presidents, you can do so on gallup's site. hint: he's doing fine.

You have to start praying for power a couple years out. You need to give god a little lead time.

Yes, as our learned friend Nick mentioned, Reagan. His poll numbers went significantly further south, significantly faster.

By the same Gallup poll, his approval was 35% in January of 1983. Let me guess though, you wouldn't attribute that to people 'seeing him for what he really was'.

As the economy improves, so will his numbers. If we have good unemployment numbers by Nov 2012, then he'll be known as the one that got us out of the recession and think it would be hard to unseat him.

You can use the tracking tool to overlay the approval ratings of the presidents by the number of days they are (were) in office. Obama, Reagan, and Carter track pretty closely at 689 days into the office.

That's what happens when the media hates you and is out to smear you. That's what I was referring to when I said think about what his numbers would be if the media wasn't busy adoring him all day every day. He'd make those 35% numbers of Reagan's look like 90% approval.

That's why I don't believe it will lead to defeat in 2012, the media is 100% on his side.

as if conservative outlets don't exist? fox and talk radio have more viewers/listeners than msnbc/cnn and nightly news, plus throw in all the conservative news outlets in every state, local papers, churches which lean right and christ, stop with the bullshit already.

I'm sorry, but that's simply not supported by reality. The 'librul media' is a myth.

It does offer a ready made excuse as to why Republicans lose elections and/or have bad polling numbers though. When Republicans do badly it's because the media is so mean. When Democrats do badly, it's because they suck. (vice versa for Democrats winning/being popular)

Only if you're a librul koolaid slurping partisan. For everyone else, it's an accepted fact.
Don't let them divert. This is fabulous news for our nation. Best news all day in fact. Celebrate his downfall and failures.

We may be seeing a bottom in how people feel about the economy. Looks like job numbers are getting better. Obama just has to worry how he'll look before the next election.

If poor poll results for a politician you dislike are the "Best news all day", your life must very seriously suck.
