Have any of you tried those free credit reporting agencies? I hear ads all the time for www.freecreditreport.com but I've never filled it out. Any pluses or minuses to say about these companies? Or please give the agency you've had good experience with.

You have to sign up for their 'service'.

Better off doing it yourself in my opinion. ~$7 each to the 3 major credit bureaus. Cheaper in some states, free in others. Free if you've been declined credit in the past 60 days.

I signed up for consumerinfo.com's free report and it was great. Found an open Structures credit card that I had over 10 years ago that I hadn't closed. Also, found a joint-credit card I'd opened with my mom when I was in high school that we hadn't taken my name off. So, just make sure you cancel within the first 30 days, and you're fine. I personally forgot, but you can still cancel during the first 6 months, but they only give you part of your money back. I just cancelled today, so I'll find out soon how much 2 months of service costs.

7??? $9 in most states when getting them directly from the agencies. I just got mine last month. I check them every 6 months. It was $8 last year. They must have raised the price recently.

Those things can never validate my Identity, doesn't accept my mastermoney bank card as a credit card and I don't have the number for the citibank visa card I had a few years ago.
