Please Help!!!
I have an old Obsidian X -24 V2 Card that I would like to use along with my
GeForce 2 Pro just in case I get the urge to play an old game like Tomb Raider 1 or something that reqires a glide driver to look nice. I have a 1 Ghz T-bird on an Asus A7V M/B. When I install the card(even on a freshly formatted H/D) Win 98 Se sees it and asks for the Driver CD. It then instals the drivers and then everytning goes FUBAR!! If I manage to get to the desktop(usually just keeps restarting)and I try to go into the desktop properties, I get a pop-up that states" Mutual exclusion prohibits this" and my system then locks up! Either that or the properties page doesn't show the Obsidian properties correctly or I get a Day-Glo desktop which is unreadable. I think that maybe this card just doesn't like the AMD system that I have but any advice would be helpful!!!

I used to have that card (x-24) and now have AV7 mobo.

Did you try to manually install the video card? In other words, when Win98 say "Found new device", DON'T install drivers. Then once computer is booted into Win98, Run the Quantum CD.

It is too bad, but 2 years ago, Quantum said they would no longer "support" the obsidian. So if it is a driver conflict, then you are FUBARed.

A couple of years ago I bought an X24. Using a VIA VP3 based mb. Nope!

Quantum 3D sent me three different boards. We tried and tried. Hours on the phone. Never did get it to work!

Put the same board on an Intel mb and not a single problem.

Quantum 3D seemed to think there is a conflict with a chip on the card and a similar chip on the VIA mbs. I forget what it's called.

BTW, that is one of the reasons I steer clear of VIA mbs to this day, although I've still got the setup that we failed with the X24!

Tominator,

Thanks for the info. I will be sure to pass it along in the future. Hard to belief the X-24 is still getting talked about in 2001!
