I've been trying out different shipping companies lately to see which I like best. I sold a few things on eBay and shipped them via USPS Priority. I shipped a couple returns to some online stores via UPS Ground. I ordered some merchandise from Newegg and they shipped FedEx Express Saver. I had to ship that SAME merchandise back to Newegg (
at Lite-On HD-166 eject mechanism) and used FedEx Ground.
Overall, I'll say this: for the cheapest shipping with no frills, USPS Priority is, pound for pound, the cheapest. But if, like mine, your post office often has lines out the door and no parking, and Delivery Confirmation just doesn't do it for you, then FedEx Ground is the way to go. All in all, it's usually only about a buck more than Priority Mail. And for me, the MUCH better tracking information all but makes up for that extra dollar.
FedEx Ground is much cheaper than UPS Ground, and the tracking is updated more frequently, in my experieence. UPS Ground is often slower than FedEx Ground as well. Additionally, while Airborne Express is often cheaper than both UPS and FedEx, its tracking isn't too up-to-speed, and the driver has always chosen to leave overnight shipments at my door. I don't like that. I'd rather have them hold my shipments until I'm home or until I pick them up.
Anyway, I think I'll be doing most, if not all of my (home-to-business, at least...home-to-home = $$) shipping with FedEx. They just seem to be the best, fastest, and most reliable shipper.
