Observation - RS400 onboard video sucks

I have been trying to use onboard video on this ECS motherboard that I picked up to play with, and it really, really sucks. I have never seen such incredibly poor quality 2D in my life. That is really saying something.

It is nice to have the onboard option, especially when its time comes to become a kid's PC - perhaps the poor quality was because I was using it at 1280x1024 rez on an LCD screen.

Any input?

Strange, 2d is fine on my xpress 200 Jetway board on my 17" LCD. Even came close to breaking a grand in 3dmark05 when I overclocked it :) 250 to 350 and 32 whooping megs of onboard memory. Worked great until I replaced it with a gto2. Now the wifes school rig.

you have the updated drivers? including for the MB?

2d should be excellent and even 3d should be ok if you don't play new games.

is it vga? if so... ecs isn't exaclty known for using high quality components, and that is what dictates the 2d image quality.

also, do you have the monitor adjusted properly?

Was 1280x1024 the LCD's native res? If not, then of course it'l look bad.

I think that the problem may be the drivers might be older versions. Come to think of it, I believe that I got lazy and just loaded the dirvers off of the CD.

I would never have done that back when I had time to do things right.

I will say that it was fun actually building a PC again. It has been a long, long time :)

try turning on cleartype in display property..?
Are you using Lcd's native resolution?
Try download a color profile(driver) from your LCD manufacturer.?
adjust refresh rate in display property?

2D quality should not differ especially for LCD..

I too was using the IGP available with the ATI Xpress 200 chipset. I had no problems running 1280x1024 on my 21" CRT. The image was very crisp/clean. I've since put in a Sapphire X1600XT and didn't notice any improvement on my desktop... games of course run quite a bit better. :)

I have an x200 (RS482) msi board and it works great. the 3d performance is spectacular for an integrated board. I can play fear @ 1024x768 medium quality and get 15fps
