I'm about to reformat and was thinking if I would need autosave.bak, autosave.ess, or both? What's the difference between these two file types? Also I installed BTMod 2.2 and wow, it's a must-have mod. What are some other mods that are this caliber? Thanks in advance.

I think you need those autosave parameters... I'd keep them just in case.
Other must have mods are Qarl's Texture Pack 3, Oscuro's Oblivon Overhaul, and other mods such as those. I'll let those who have compiled a list of mods before post with a well organized cumulative post. :)

nope

autosave.bak is autosave "backup" ... the 2nd last "autosave"

remnaming it to autosave.ess has saved many a player when they forgot to hard save for a long time and the last save got corrupted :p

you can just save *one* file if you like ;)
[i wouldn't]

there are a lot of great content mods ... check the TESS forums for the latest ... 6 months ago, i was impresed with Kumiko Manor ... a LONG SQ for high-level players only and 4 mods by the author of "Tower of the Lich King"

save often ;)

. . . and you're welcome

--it has saved many an inattentive player :)

i remember someone who lost ~50 hours of gameplay due to a corrupt autosave - he just didn't bother to save in a marathon session ... was roasted thoroughly on the TESS forums for blaming the Devs - and uninstalled his game in disgust ...
--just before we were able to get this advice to him :p
