Ok Im taking a break from the main quest so I can do the side quests. Im now done with the dark brotherhood storyline and the thief storyline, am almost done with the fighters storyline and currently suspended from the mages storyline...

Ive waited on closing the gates of oblivion because I figured all of them would be closed as part of the main quest. But then I realized maybe not.

So let me know if I shoudl close them all so I can experience them all or if I should wait if theyre part of the main quest.

I think there are 8 gates and yes, they all must be closed separately. I closed 3 or 4 of them before I went back to the main quests, so yeah, start crackin.

sure close the gates. be warned sometimes they will re-open when you come near them again.

also there is some great equipment in them.

the only gates you MUST close are the gates outside of each respective town to get support from each city's ruler. the rest of them (are there more?) are extraneous. sorry if i spoiled something for you :(

Go ahead and close them. To my knowledge, the only gates used in the storyline quests DO NOT OPEN until you are on that part of the storyline. But when the storyline ends, it closes them ALL.

You can not permanently close all gates. There is one gate outside of each town that you must close as part of the main quest, but they don't even open until a specific part of the main quest. Gates that you find in the wilderness will be closed after you finish the main quest, and if I remember correctly they're random in where they appear.

You should go collect the 1337 loot from oblivion first.
