Oblivion Settings

I'm having some troble getting Oblivion to run well outside on a 6800GT (OCed a bit past ultra) and an athlon64 (newcastle 512kb@2.5Ghz). I know this is a pretty popular setup so I was hoping someone may have figured out the best compromise settings. It autodetected to 1024x768 and high quality.

i would be interested in knowing this as well, as i have a similar rig and im picking up oblivion soon.

Is it "stalling" or just a low framerate overall?

Do you have HDR enabled?

There are a ton of settings too. My system was auto detected at 1024x768 @ high as well.
I actually lowered my resolution to 800x600 but raised some of the effects. I'll raise the resolution back up to see how that affects everything.

The game has been smooth so far, I just made it outside so I don't know how the outdoors are so far.

Is there any internal frame rate counter?

I'll let you know how my runs later today... i'm gonna go pick up a copy before work. I have a laptop though (Intel PM 2Ghz w/ 6800Ultra Go and 2GB ram). I need to run it at 1920x1200 as well.

A coworker and I have virtually the same rig...Newcastle 2.4 and 6800GT/Ultra.

It also defaulted to 1024x768 and High Q. For my rig (with the Ultra) I bumped it up to 1280x1024, put on 2x and Bloom. While it looked great, FPS suffered at times and it was by no means smooth. I didn't run FRAPS but will after work iyou're still interested. I lowered the settings to the detected defaults and it has improved a great deal (no AA). My friend and I are still on the AGP boat - he splurged for a 7800GS for overnight, and I should know very soon - hopefully tomorrow - of any worthwhile performance improvements.

I updated to the latest XG nvidia drivers, that helped a bit, and I've been spending all of my time in towns and it's been ok. Combat outdoors is the real problem. I'm broke till graduation in 6 weeks, I've thought about shelving oblivion until then, but it's just too good.

im using:

A64 3400+ (NC) | BFG 6800GT OC | Fortron 530w PSU |
DFI Lanparty UT | 1.5GB Cheap RAM | Audigy 2 ZS Gamer |
Diamondmax10 w/ 16mb cache| Antec P160| Logitech Z2200 2.1 | NEC 3500A

Not sure how its doing...so far, ive only played a few mins inside and its good. it detected it at 1024x768 high, but i moved alot of settings to the middle, and a few far to the right. Ill see how it goes when i get further.

Id be interested in seeing whats the best setup for this though.

1920x1200 wasn't doable for me. I had to drop it to 1600x1000, and it's working great. Outside i get about 15fps, which is a pain, but so far doable. I really don't want to lower any of the graphical settings, since the game just looks so sweet.
