14:54 We spied a few rumours creeping around the internet earlier today suggesting RPG Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was due to whip out its UK and European broadsword on March 24, which prompted us to put a quick call in to Oblivion's Euro handler 2K Games for confirmation.

It turns out it's all true, a spokesperson for the company giving a big thumbs up to the date for both PC and Xbox 360 versions of the hotly anticipated sequel. So it's March 24 - unless something disastrous happens. Like a giant kebab striking the Earth and returning us to the Ice Age.

Now, despite the comment, "Oblivion was due to whip out its UK and European broadsword on March 24", Bethesda is in the Us after all...so I imagine this means we'll get it soon or later by a few days. I'm soooooooo looking foward to this game!

But did you see how much they toned down the graphics for PC? Stupid move I think since new video cards always come out that could probably handle what it was.

Why would they tone down the graphics? If anything, they only programmed up to what the X360 was capable of. They aren't going to spend the time and resources to program a better game for the PC, then "tone" it down to match the X360.

From the dev interviews I've seen (various places... IGN, 1Up, Shack, etc.), the 360 can simply handle more than the PCs they've tested. It makes sense to develop for what's out there NOW and the *IMMEDIATE* future, since the future is so unpredictable.

EDIT: Also, IGN is reporting that the new release date is innacurate.

I don't care if they tone down the graphics, as long as they don't tone down the GAME (for the PC, that is). I'm hoping for a complex and clickable menu system and lots of buttons to push, along with a nonlinear world.

I'm sure this is true, but the question is whether the game is programmed to the max of the X360's capabilities, which I doubt. It's too early in the console's life cycle for programmers to be getting the most out of it.

I doubt they are going to design a game for the 3 people that will be able to afford an x1900xtx in x-fire mode... :) I'm sure it will be a great game... perhaps I will have to bring up my PC so that I can play it... as it wont be avaliable for my mac :(...

Why, again do you even use a mac?

Because for my needs OSX is better, and less of a hastle, than windows XP. The only game that I'm currently playing is WoW, and I don't even play that much anymore. Other than that I do most of my gaming on my X-box, so the lack of game support on the mac platform isn't a big deal to me. Sure I'd love to waste my money and fail all my classes and play games all day, but I can't afford to...

SWEEEEET! I got this game already pre-ordered for Xbox 360. I'm just waiting for the release date so I can finally pick it up!

Regular or Collector's edition? (I'm a sucker for the limited edition games... Not sure why, since I hardly ever pay attention to the extra stuff.)
Collector's Edition includes the following bonus items:
  • Pocket Guide to the Empire - A 112 page guide to every aspect of Tamriel, including its people, provinces and much more.
  • Making of Oblivion Documentary - Includes a special behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of Oblivion.
  • Septim Gold Coin - An authentic replicated Septim, the official currency of Tamriel.

its just they can optimize it so much more, the 360 isn't necessarily more capable. at least on paper, a PC will dominate the 360 stat wise, but due to better optimization, the 360 "wins"

Only the highest end PC's can do better than the 360... And it would be insane for a developer to optimize their code for the maybe 1% of the PC population.

I'm a sucker for Limited Editions also, so that's what I have pre-ordered. :)
