Seems reasonable, given the eyecandy it's going to have.

bout what i had imagined would be necisary to have a decent graphical experiance(recomended settings). what is sad is that with those specs, bout what i got, i'm sure i'm going to see frames dropping alot lower than i would like. Though on an up side, high FPS are not so vital as they would be in a shooter, so for what thats worth.

well the game is multi-processor or multi-core cpu ready :)

http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2005/11/09/elder_scrolls_4_int/2.html

"Oblivion will absolutely benefit from a multi-processor or multi-core PC architecture. These improvements have largely been driven by our optimizations for the Xbox 360 hardware. We have built a dynamic thread management system that manages processor load by our specific direction and by priorities. Portions of physics, AI, loading, audio, and rendering tasks can all be moved to different threads to keep the overall load balanced. The net result for the end user is a smoother experience." >> Thanks to xbox 360

Its also will be great with Unified cards like G8X and R6xxx

"The unified shader architecture definitely does help with the speed of shader processing. Plus, it's completely transparent to developers as the optimization all occurs behind the scenes on the hardware side of things. However, we've optimized our shaders so that the overall difference between Oblivion running on the Xbox 360, and Oblivion running on a fast PC with a Shader Model 3.0 card should be slight. We're locking the framerate at 30fps on the 360 so you probably won't see framerate improvements vs. the PC, but you might see a more stable framerate."

Also the game HDR / SM3.0 useage is awesome since you can see in the gameplay how the sun looks so real instead of big fat thing in the sky.

I think people will enjoy the game to fullest with a system like :

AMD X2 4400 or OC CPu like Opteron 165 @ 2.4Ghz +
2GB RAM
ATI X1900XT or G71 >> game will be more heavily shader reliant thanks to XBOX 360 so you may see a same benchmark result as in fear

THIS GAME IS THE NEXT FARCRY TYPE graphic :) ... Remember Farcry was 1st game to show off the latest GPU.. HL2, DOOM 3 , FEAR and others came afterwards.

Remember all the cry from people who couldn't run FARCRY :) we may have something like that and i am really excited its an RPG game that will introduce the next level Type Graphic Standards not a typical FPS : )

Just one look at the forest in Oblivion and you know this game is going to be awesome.

Let's be honest. Bethesda is mediocre when it comes to coding their graphics engines. They would have been better off using a 3rd party engine, allowing them to dedicate more resources to gameplay and content and produce something that would be nicely playable on most high-end machines.

So basically it says that if you can't afford a full upgrade to the best CPU/GPU on the market today you're probably stuck at 20 fps@800x600 or worse. That's how I read it anyway. Recommended specs these days usually end up being pretty minimal in most cases.

EDIT: for the record, Morrowind sucked monkyballs Performance-wise, it was and still is one of the best games I ever played.

My biggest gripe with Morrowind, aside from those fvcking flying things in the wasteland, is that there was so much that made so little difference.

Like I should spend so much time gathering godamn herbs and sh|t for what? A few bursts of extra firepower/run speed/water breathing? Same with the soul gathering. It never seemed to make a difference either way.

Yeah, which possibly means starforce some have suggested. I'm not "upgrading" just for this game regardless. There better be a work around for 2K.

At least you could sell useless potions. (for petty gold) Enchantment was pretty much a totally useless skill because custom enchanted items weren't worth any more then the original item.

Oblivion Developers saying no difference between 360 and PC graphically
CVG: Will there be different features or limitations in the Xbox 360 version?

Carter: We are working to make the two versions as close to identical as possible. The Xbox 360 version should be visually identical to a PC running with all the visual options turned to maximum. PC users will have more options to turn down certain visuals to better accommodate older hardware setups. The only thing the Xbox 360 version will lack is the Elder Scrolls Construction Set for modding. It simply isn't possible to offer on a console.

Yea, but it's _immersion_. If there's herbs in the forest you should be able to pick them and use them even if it's not very powerful. You should be able to collect wood to make a fire or carve arrows. You should be able to chop down a tree so it falls over a river allowing you to cross.

Ok, and can I do the last two things you mentioned? Nope.

I could in Ultima Online, the collecting wood/carving arrows bit anyway :)

Immersion is great, but fun is more important. I find that doing something only to find it's pretty much useless detracts from the fun.

I could understand sticking with Win2K, say, 4 or 5 years ago - before XP received a service pack or two, but what is with the huge reluctance in upgrading?

Just saying that's what I want from a game, and that's the sort of thing I would try to code If I ever get a job writing games.

Yea, I loved stuff like that in UO. You could really roleplay a ranger charater - live in the forest, catch fish, make your own weapons.

I dunno, you're right for an average FPS game, but I think (for adventure/rpg at least) the model where you specifically allow and disallow the player to do things is outdated. I wouldn't want the programmers to write in a bit where I have to cut down a tree to get over a river and the tree falls the same way every time... that would be boring... I would want the tree to fall purely as an emergant property of the physics engine. I want dogs to chase cats in the game, not because dog296 is scripted to move in a particular way (boring, pointless), but because the AI of the creature tells it to chase anything smaller than itself. I want the game to present me with completely different situations every time I play.
