Oblivion or Dragon Age?

I'm looking into getting one of these games but don't know which would be the better one to get into... I played WoW for a bit and really liked it but don't like the whole monthly fee thing. Anyone played both of these? Which one did you like better and why?

Damn that's a tough question, I love both games a lot. I'd probably go with Dragon Age for a better story, superior voice acting (by a gigamile) and better graphics. Oblivion is more open and feels more like a role playing game (but less like an RPG, ironically), and Oblivion combat is more engaging but less tactical, in my opinion.

Very tough choice, the only good answer is "play both".

Oblivion is a wide open world with many quests and things to do. You play as a single character. (I'd recommend mods to fix certain aspects of the game like character animations, combat and leveling system).

Dragon Age is a more linear story telling that you play through, with no wide open areas by what I would call "stages" that you progress through. You can control up to 4 party members of various races & classes, you can also get different outcomes (more or less) by the dialogue options you pick. (DLC is not required at all to enjoy the game, but nice if it comes with the game)

Both are good games, let Youtube decide.

Yeah, it totally depends on the type of gaming you like to do. DA:O is very linear in nature and you can't just roam around and explore. However, it is the kind of game you can play more than once since starting out as different races will have a different background story.

DA:O for party-based, story-based gaming with more tactical combat

Oblivion for solo, sandbox, weak story, action-oriented combat. It feels more like wandering a world, but the world is less epic.

My personal favorite is DO:A... but they both are different. They are also both great games, so I think you'll be happier whichever one you choose.

Oblivion put me to sleep. DA:O I've spent over 80 hours in. I'm on my second play through now.

Oblivion = boring, DA:O = engaging story that made me forget I'd been playing for 5 hours straight

If you compare both, DA:O is by far the better game. Oblivion is kind of the game the promises much but fails to deliver once you spent some hours in it, whereas DA:O starts off slowly and gets more engaging till the end.

The main quest in both are really dull though, I must say.

Oblivion is good on its own right, although without mods it gets boring, but with mods it can be a completely new adventure, but overall Dragon Age: Origins is much better, and that comes from a gamer who loves sandbox gaming and open worlds, and for that purpose Fallout 3 is much better than Oblivion anyway.

Oblivion + Mods is sight to behold, plus you could probably get the game and the expansion pack for less than $20. Both games are great, but Oblivion is a bit more console friendly while DA:O is very much hardcore PC.

DA was a blast first time through but I find it's replay to be nil for me.. outside of the character intro story once you leave that it's samo-samo

This sums it up. Oblivion you will be playing for a lot longer because of mods.

Oblivion has a terrible story and dialogue so don't expect to roleplay in it. Its more of a fantasy GTA game.

I'd suggest dragon age. oblivion was rather boring and well just generally bleh. Some folks seem to really like it - not sure why. Dragon age has its own set of flaws; but over all i enjoyed it (consider it more of an interactive movie). To be honest I much rather have BG2 mechanics with new story/new graphics.

This is truth.
But since they went out of business, the best you can hope for is home user mods.

OMG, DA is 10000x better than Oblivion could ever hope to be. Oblivion had nice graphics but the story sucked and the gameplay was boring as hell. I never finished it, thats how crappy it was imo.

I'm currently playing through DA and I love it. It's hard though.
