I was going to post this in the big Oblivion thread but didnt want it to get lost in there--so I'm starting a new thread about the PS3 version just for kicks.

I've played Oblivion on the PC (no graphical enhancement mods, just BTMOD) and completed the main quest, on the 360 (didnt finish it there), and now...on the PS3.

If you've read reviews or seen the comparison video over at gametrailers.com between the 360 (pre-patch) and PS3 version (can't link it, site is blocked here at work), you can vouche for it.

There has been some talk about the load times decreased, graphic fidelity increased, and the addition of the Knights of the Nine quest line to the PS3 version.

I've only put in about 2 hours into the game, but I can say, already, that the game does indeed appear to have been optimized. The graphics are nice and crisp (more so than on the 360 pre-patch). The frame rate does appear to have been increased as well--especially outdoors. It's just fantastic.

Now, like stated earlier, the 360 did get a patch as of yesertday (I beleive), that introduced the new shader that the PS3 version has--so they might be identical graphically speaking. Anyone have both versions of the game? I'll probably check this out for myself and report back.

Anyone else playing the PS3 version? What about for the first time?

I have it for the PC and PS3...I got it for PS3 mostly because I was tired of not getting the most out of such a beautiful game on my PC.

I've only seen comparison shots, and I can definitely tell the difference between the 360 (pre-patched) and PS3. I haven't heard much about framerate, but I could image that it was optimized a bit more...

I have heard about the graphics being more crisp, and the colors less saturated.

I really can't say though, I don't have the 360 version. With the new patch, they're basically the exact same.

Two things I have noticed that are different though: The PS3 has strange sound glitches sometimes (In particular killing rats at the start of the game). Also, the loading is a LOT better than what I've seen on the 360 (I saw a friend play it). I know that's due to the data being put on the PS3...I've heard roughly 2 times faster load times? Not a bad thing at all.

And of course, we're missing downloads right now, but it's only a matter of time before they get the network set up for it.

Overall it's the same game...no reason to buy it if you have the 360 version or PC version (unless it runs poorly).

I have to add, on just a general note--the game is freak'n gorgeous on my 46 inch Bravia (XBR3). It's breathtaking to sit back, and look off into the distance. I mean, the draw distance seems to be increased as well. I can see so far off, and it's so vibrant.

I just started a new game (obviously), but have decided to make a Battlemage instead of a Fighter. My first run through, on the PC, I basically built a tank. I wanted something that would plow through, hack and slash, and tear apart the mobs of enemies. It was great fun, but this time it was going to be all about magic--not brawn.

I did consider rolling a Thief/Assasin type, but upon some research it looks a little too complicated for now. Who knows, maybe a little later I'll try that out.

But I could feel myself being drawn in to the game once more as I strolled around town yesterday. Some times the anal gamer in my begins to stress out about shedules, the main quest, oh man...will I level too early. Heh...it's so weird. I dont have this problems in other games. :p

I have it for PC and 360 and have seen it on the PS3.

I would play it on PC, PS3, 360.

PC by far is the best due to the mods and being able to play it at 1080P and higher, mods make it look better too.

PS3 I feel is only better because the PS3 system is nice and quite, dang 360 DVD-rom drive is so loud.

Well, it only looks better on a PC if you have the horsepower to push the graphics. I do agree on the mod comment, for sure, there is ust os much out there.

Also, my PC is hooked up to a 46-inch LCD, but my PS3 is hooked up to my 46 inch Bravia (XBR3) via HDMI and it's absolutely stunning! I prefer the wireless play on my couch.

I wouldn't want to play Oblivion, or just about any game outside of the portable market, on a 2 inch LCD either ;)

The Ps3 has increase draw distances, so it helps a lot in some areas, textures also seem to be sharper.

I think IGN said that the PS3 version looks better post-patch 360 too.

i read on another forum that they improved the LOD textures for the ps3 (not as much as the lod mod though) but reduced texture quality and because of that the foliage becomes really ugly blobs of color on the ps3. on the 360 however you can see the details on the leaves and stuff.

You know, I heard that--but seeing it for myself I think it totally works fine and is far from ugly.

Hey, they applied some AF on the PS3 version!
Finally these 'next-gen consoles' are actually utilizing their ability to improve image quality! Whaddya know!
That is a HUGE difference between X360 and PS3.... very impressive for the PS3.

Woah, pipe down boys!

But yeah, the PS3 version looks considerably cleaner. Notice the rock wall textures behind the emperor in the first pic, as well as his necklace.
