Are there any laptops out there that can handle Oblivion on decent settings (maybe what it autodetects as "medium")? What sort of laptop graphics chipset would be equivalent to the various desktop cards?

I would guess identical to the game's system requirements, tho it might get pissy with the lower clocks of Pentium Ms and Turions.

I have not tried it, but I am pretty certain my notebook can run it, PM 2.13, 1GB RAM, GF7800GTX Go. It might autodetect all the settings to medium or low because it can't recognize a PM though.

My friend is running it on his Pentium M 1.8, 1GB, 6800 (I think) laptop. He's running it in widescreen native res with medium settings.

my friend is running it on his dell xps gen2 laptop with 2Ghz dothan pentium M, 6800 Go Ultra, and 1GB of ram. he has it on 1920x1200 on medium settings.

Well, it could definately run on a true gaming laptop.
Keep in mind a 7800 Go is not exactly the same as a 7800 card.
I honestly dont know which ones perform at which level. Its been a LONG time since Anandtech did a laptop GPU to desktop Video Card comparison.

But it should still work fine.
