oblivion on Gf3 anyone?

How well do they play the game though???

Well even with the 6 year old comp attached I get craptastic frame rates if there are many (read 2+) different detailed faces close to the screen.

Also I have to be a bit careful inside as if I face to many rooms (even if I can't see them) I get a drop in framerate.

Oh yeah drop in framerate means going from FPS to SPF 🙂

Otherwise I have most settings off or all the way down. I could turn things up but I don't think my geforce3 64mb card and my 512rdram will handle it too well.

It is playable though. Although it looks like carp.

well. probably not, you remember the doom3 and halflife 2 patch for voodoo2 to work in DX6 and older opengl.
This is perfectly normal. might make grforce5 sales rocket....

I dunno abou that....

IMO, those screenshots actually look incredibly good for that kind of hardware. What does "playable" mean in terms of fps though?

The game can still have normal mapping without the parallax mapping effect with PS 1.1, though probably not the nice water reflections and other cool stuff.

Still, old cards are slow, even if they can run it. I'm guessing since good cards tend to get 30-40 fps outdoors with high settings, the old cards can't get more than that on low settings.

ahaha spf 😀

I wonder if it plays a lot faster on newer cards. I'm getting decent framerates with the system in my sig, but this would be fun to try...

My frame rates vary from 20 to 75, probably averaging 35-40 outdoors. Indoors the frames stay high.

I was at a LAN on the weekend and a guy i knew was p**sed off cause he couldn't get oblivion to play smooth on his GeForce 5500, even on lowest settings. I'll tell him bout this next time i see him.

In case anyone was wondering...

Q: Does Oldblivion improve my framerate on current generation cards such as Geforce 6 and better?

A: In general, no. While the shaders Oldblivion uses is much shorter than the shaders Oblivion uses, there is a chance that your card either emulates or translates the 1.1 shaders to the version your card primarily supports. Oldblivion isn't a compromise between visuals and performance. It's more of a solution for people who have cards that perform horribly under 2.0 or simply doesn't support it at all.

Here are some pics from somebody running it on an ATI 9250. Not too bad, although the cpu is an Athlon 3000+, which helps. The video card does have 256 MB of RAM, which, until now, I would have called extreme overkill for a 9250!

Wow, that is an awesome hack...Oblivion @ 15 FPS with XGA resolution!

One of my friends needs this bad, he's trying to play it on his 9250
