Oblivion old saved games crashing to desktop

ok I did a fresh install of winxp pro. reinstalled oblivion and transferred my old saved games back to where they go in my games folder. when i try to load any of them the meter gets to almost the end and then I get a crash to the desktop saying there was on error dealingv with oblivion.exe. I have also installed the latest patch which I had installed before. any ideas?

I did try switching video card drivers also no help

try a reinstall of the game

if that fails, the guys at the OB forum i linked to are pretty helpful and knowledgeable. You may need to be persistent in asking. 😉

how many hours did you have into the game?
[i refrained from doing anything to my rig till i *finished* the game . . . 1016 hours]

Ummmm, that might actually be the problem.

If his saved game includes data from a butt-load of mods it may explain why his saves dont work.

Hey OP!
Try to remember which mods you had enabled before and make sure they are enabled again.

Also, what symptoms do you have when starting new games without mods?
With mods?

not really . . . if you do NOT enable the mods, you will get a mesage that "content is no longer available"

and it should load fine.

first thing i'd do is reinstall Oblivion again . . .
. . . then head off to the ob forums. 😛
