so is there a list of mods that work with oblivion mod manager? i want to use mod manager but it gets so messy installing things manually and through the manager...itd be great if it could all be done through the manager.

also, i know this is asked a lot...but what are the best oblivion mods? i havent played this game in forever

Also consider JSGME. It's originally developed for Silent Hunter games but works well with Oblivion and any number of other games too. Basically a generic binary file diff tool.

I just installed the game + 2 expansions(i had it for 360 but couldnt get used to playing such a game with a controller), and installed all 3 unofficial patches, francesco's mod, betterLetters, Quest Award Leveling, BTMod and Natural Environments. Also got a saved game that starts at the end of the sewer so i dont have to go through all that again.

Murphy, any particular order of install you used? Once I get an older operating system installed I am going to re-install oblivion with mods, so I am curious.

Get the distant LOD landscape fixes to cure the blurry distant land textures and theres one thats called somthing like "most everything viewable" that shows distant buildings so they dont "pop up" right in front of you.
Then Quarls texture pack.
Then i usually install the "real lights" so houses are lit at night "illumination within revived". (its just too cool)
Whichever water fix you like.(like the Phinix water fix)
The BT mod.
Beaming sunglare mod.
No more annoying messages mod.
Clocks of Cyrodill.
New cathedral stained glass.
Apple and orange trees around cyrodill.
Natural enviroments.
And theres several NPC faces overhauls (like TNR) and body overhauals depending on what you like.

Heck with all the right mods installed Oblivion is still one of the best darn looking games out today.

I don't know that there is any specific order, Dorkenstein. I did it in the order I listed them in my post, and it seemed to work ok.

Get the Unofficial Oblivion Patch before anything else, it's a must, and it has its own installer, once it is installed you only need to activate the .ESP via the regular game's launcher, you will need Oblivion Mod Manager only if you plan on installing more complex mods and want to organize them properly.

would you go with this?

I think my gpu can run the regular version fine, it has 1gb dedicated gddr3 memory, but if that one is better and smoother should i go with it? or does it look worse?

Thats what I'm using. I had Qarls regular textures but my 8800GT had issues with it, some textures would appear completely black unless I restarted oblivion.

Some other good mods:
Francesco's static leveling - similar to OOO

nGCD - redoes the entire player leveling experience (no more having to sleep), smarter attribute leveling

merchant skill fix - oblivions is basically broken, you gain a small percentage with each sale you make (weither it be 1 arrow or 500 arrows or an uber expensive armor suite)

enchantment restore - enchanted items restore over time, just like morrowind

zumblockpicking - no more stupid lock picking minigame, you equip a pin like a sword and activate it on a lock

Unique Landscapes - theres several of them, makes the landscape much more enjoyable, everything from waterfalls to quiet walkway paths to dense thick forests

toggleable quantity prompt - get rid of that annoying "how many do you want?" and "are you sure you want to sell?" Just hit the shift key while moving/selling it's done automatically, huge time saver

tamrielic ingredients - for alchemists adds the old morrowind ingrediants to the list (things like fire fern, netch, corpus weepings...etc)

spell delete - it's got issues, (you cant add a new spell with the same name of a deleted spell, but it works)

reznods mannequin - for those who like to really role-play, mannequins

ren guard's overhaul - no more pyshic guards

qarls harvest - another alchemist mod, adds apple/orange trees and fallen logs are harvestiable

candles for kleptos - another for roleplaying, you can now pickup most candles

mark & recall - adds good ole' mark & recall spells, theres also a multimark mod out there for oblivion

kvatch rebuilt - after saving kvatch it slowly gets rebuilt (currently playing this quest)

dude wheres my horse? - find your horse quickly

droppable torches - you can drop lit torches and place them

decorator assistant - again for role playing, especially if you like to try and decorate your house only to have the horrible havok mess your work up. This freezes objects in place.
