Oblivion: Lock Picking and Gaining Skills???

Ok so how the hell do you pick locks in this game?
Is there a special technique. I saw the double ping solution someone posted but I always suck at it.

I saw the lock picking skill and magik but how the hell do i get up to level 25 for those???


Lastley, is there a special way to build up skills such as luck, strength etc?

I started buying technique training from people but after training 5/5 it stops and when i look at my skills they say something like Journyman + Novice. How do i move up from novice? Is there a seperate way to do this?

If you really suck at lockpicking go get the Skeleton Key artifact. It makes ridiculously easy to pick locks and it never breaks. Lockpicks become obsolete after that

You get it by doing a quest for one of the daedric shrines... I think it was just off the main road north of Bravil (or was is Leyawin?)

lock picking can be tricky...my son is really good at the "double ping" trick. One thing I've noticed is the "cylinders" are cyclical (sorry about the pun) meaning push up and it comes down fast, then slower, then slower to where it almost sticks giving you enough time to hit "A". Just keep pushing them up until you see the pattern. Slow going sometimes but it's worked well for me.
