Oblivion graphics, I am honestly pretty damn disappointed

I don't really know what else to say except that I'm pretty displeased with the graphics. The textures of most things are extremely bland, and it does not run well either. HL2 Lost Coast has much better texturing on everything and it runs faster on my machine as well. And you can use HDR and AA (and its still faster than Oblivion.)

I'm sure the game is a fun play but I'm pretty bummed out about the graphics. They really blew it with how much they toned it down, IMO

I am playing at 1680x1050, everything on highest quality, using HQ setting in nvidia control panel, tried both HDR and 4xAA

In fact, I have to go as far as to say I'm pissed. The textures are really ****** poor. Certainly no better than HL2, and that ran about 5x faster

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6146346.html watch from 4.20min of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Gameplay Marathon Highlights. shows you how the graphic should look and compare it from your graphic.

either the pc version has issues or xbox 360 version looks much better...

It's funny how well the HL2 engine is holding its own so far against all newer games coming out. It usually looks better and almost always runs faster. The good thing is there are numerous games coming out this year on that engine. Hope the .ini files helps a lot for you. Saw a video in the forums of the game- looks fun.

From the screenshots at Gamespot the game looks pretty good to me, especially some of the bump-mapping . . .

Though the shots I've seen on nvnews leads me to think otherwise . . .

Nvidia are releasing Forceware 84.25 drivers today. These are the first to have an Oblivion profile. Maybe they also have optimizations or fix some issues for the game as well.

Gonna have to agree with what others have said above me
Every single texture in that ss is ugly and stretched

The stairs are so horribly stretched I don't know what the map designer was thinking

The scenes aren't exactly the same....but I doubt it would be more then a 3-4fps alteration at the most

I don't know if its me but looking at some of Morrowind's textures remind me of much older games like Unreal/Unreal II. Its as if they programmed it with DirectX 7 in mind... Everything just seems blurry

You mean Oblivian? Yeah I have to agree, some of those screenies look terrible... I wonder if they ended up optimizing for 360 more, and just shat out the PC version with a bunch of downgrades so it could run.

I have the game on the 360 and based on all of the screens in this thread the PC isn't even close right now.

So far I haven't been awe struck by the visuals, but it is certainly way out of the league of HL2(comparing it to GRAW and PGR3 it doesn't stand out too much though).

Tony4704,

Let me know if you find the answer to enable fps in the game. I believe there is a console, but I just got the game yesterday.

Hmm....

It sounds like one could buy the Xbox 360 console for the price of a really good video card, and the game might perform and look better too on the console. Sounds like a good excuse to get a new console.
