I have a concealed carry permit, from my 14 years as a P.I. I never use it. Hell, I hardly ever carried on the job, and I went into really bad neighborhoods at night, alone, all the damn time. But that's just me.
I just don't understand those civilians who carry in the 'burbs. What are you REALLY afraid of? If it's reality based, why aren't you wearing body armor as well? Most of my co-professionals who used to carry off duty no longer do. The overwhelming consensus is: They didn't like how they felt while armed. It makes you feel a little too pumped up, you know? A little too itchin' to flash your piece needlessly, to be the big man. I have enough of a temper as it is.
I guess when you've experienced the visceral, ungodly terror of genuine, close quarter carnage, as I have, you kind of lose your taste for it.
Native Americans used to greet the dawn of a beautiful day saying, "Today is a good day to die", not glorifying death, just meaning that our lives are best lived without fear.
A lot of fine young Americans died and I didn't, leaving me to sort it all out here in middle age. So I live my life as best I can, easily, in gratitude, and: Without fear.
Sorry for crapping in your thread Pliablemoose. You do have one hell of a collection of first class ordnance, there.
