how odd...I install Rune and run it.
It asks me to select my Video mode:
[*]3dfx Glide
[*]Direct 3D
[*]Software Renderer

Well I took out my Voodoo3 last week...so I don't think Glide should really be on that list...but I didn't do a fresh install or anything just installed my Radeon over top...maybe that's my problem?

Anyhow...I pick D3D and it comes up and says Radeon DDR D3D device detected. So I think..hmm ok good stuff.

I play, set it to 1024x768x32 all details and stuff maxed out.
start playing, runs great looks excellent everything is wonderful.
I go to my first battle (against the town champion to prove I'm a good warrior), I beat his head in with my Mace, then a little automated sequence plays out and now I have the problem:

After this automated sequence, you wake up underwater, and at this point all moveable objects are grey. No skins/textures on any models....all the walls/floors and scenery is fine, but moveable objects are just grey...

I thnk this might not be the final retail version of Rune, so that might be an issue...my not removing the V3 drivers might be an issue...and the 3dfx glide showing up in the video mode selection I defaintely don't like....weird thing is it's fine at first...then in "level 2" it's messed up...
I was eagerly awaiting monday all weekend (today is rune's retail release date) I was going to run down to compusmart after work and buy some rune...but now I'm not so sure...I'd like to get this resolved before I run out and buy it....

Do you guys have any idea what might cause this?

PS: Very cool game! The graphics are very well done and unlike most 3rd person melee combat games the controls are very simple and intuitive, it's as easy to control as UT is...I've only been able to fight the village champion, but you have your choice of Sword, Axe and Mace and i've tried all 3. It's great fun to bash heads with maces and sever limbs with axes...
Very good detail as well...your sword and axe blade get coated in blood as you fight. A good solid mace hit to the arm and his shield goes flying...he actually stopped to pick it up to...
Very well done, highly recommended.
Firing Squad did a review on it to, check it out if you are looking for some stress reflief ;)

Well without being any help at all, I can however agree with you that it's a great game :) I usually hate action adventures but Rune has been fun so far. I heard there is a point in the game where some door doesn't open ... oh well there'll be a patch if it's the case.
Anyway, the ame runs fine on my Celeron w/ Banshee ... medium details, though.

Just what the doctor ordered to relieve stress on a Monday morning. :)

Its got to be a problem with the game if you dont have any problems with anything else. I've had problems installing the Radeon drivers even after removing old drivers and setting the adapter to VGA first. If you ever need to reinstall the Radeon you should remove it from Add/Delete programs and then delete the Radeon files from Windows\Inf\Other.

indeed it is, unfortunately it was last night, not this morning :p

I don't know if it's any other games...I don't play UT, so i'm not sure..this is the first UT engine game I've seen...but I hope it's not the UT engine because DN:F is that engine to...and it would make me a very un-happy camper if DN:F doesn't work...hehe

Maybe I should try it in software render mode and see if it works then?

Have you checked for a driver update? I know that the Radeon DDR that I just bought came with outdated drivers. After installing those from the CD, (and yes I did the VGA mode) I jumped right into Everquest. I was disappointed to see that the transparent menus were blinking...not a big deal, but annoying.

Anyway, I went to ati.com and discovered that my drivers (3048 or something) had been replaced with the 3056. When I installed the newest driver, my Everquest problem disappeared.

I would say that this is definitely worth a try... 8 )

I would go ahead and remove the V3 drivers completely. There should be an entry in the Add/Remove seciton to do this. They are simple enough to reinstall later if you need to. Also try reinstalling the DirectX.
