Can anyone identify this object my FIL found? When you flip the switch inside, there's a whirring sound and something spins, almost like it'd be some kind of water pump. Appears to be vaguely the size of a hockey puck, albeit thicker.

Don't fixate on that. Looking at the kind of stuff the Bronco Arts and Crafts Factory makes it's entirely possible that the thing is supposed to light up and fly and it only pumps water because it's broken.

Looks like an air hockey puck.

If you put it on a perfectly flat surface, does it hover or slide easily? That might be the whirring.

I think you are right.

Has air hockey changed since I was a kid? Back then, the puck was a simple plastic disk and the air blew up through holes in the table.

I think you weirdos are on to something, looks like a cheap chinese knockoff of some kind of air ball/air hockey puck/air shuttle ball, battery powered fan inside floats it so you kick it around or some shit. Just the kind of garbage my nephews would have gotten one year for Christmas then lost before the family vaca was over.

Excellent sleuthing.

I had an air hockey table way back then, used it a lot and we always had fun with it. But this is a better idea. No table needed, take it anywhere. Use brooms and play floor hockey with it.

It also reminds me of my white noise machine. I think it is an air hockey puck as the others said.

Check this out ;).
